Trump Makes a Huge Mistake on Social Security
March 12, 2024 at 8:15 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

Dan Pfeiffer: “On issues that Trump is naive about — which includes everything other than what was said on Fox News in the previous hour — Donald Trump tends to vomit up incomprehensible word salad. When Trump says something this politically unwise, many of his apologists in the media portray comments more as a misstatement than a policy pronouncement. But that is very wrong.”

“In 2016, Trump repeatedly pledged to protect Medicare and Social Security, but then included budget cuts to Social Security and Medicare every year of his presidency. Monday’s comment was also not the first time that he expressed interest in cutting Social Security and Medicare. Here’s a montage of all the times Trump has called for these sorts of cuts.”

1. I'd be cool with anyone making a million dollars losing the check.

I mean it’s meaningless to them. It’d be like us getting two dollars.

6. If we do that, though, they'll get rid of it for us.

The only way to protect social security and Medicare - and now, Obamacare - is to make it available to the rich. Otherwise the rich will take it away from us.

We're dealing with greedy people who have seized control of our system.

9. Means testing is generally pennywise and pound foolish anyway

We don't need to exclude the wealthy, we need to make them pay for the programs that everyone benefits from.

The means testing nonsense is just an inartful way of admitting one refuses to make the rich pay otherwise what possible objection would there be to them benefiting from what they fund?

I don't trust where they draw the line.
Is it a million? $500k?
Does is start at $150k dropping to no benefit at $800k?
The people proposing these cuts can't be trusted.

SS investments belong to workers. It's our ( and their) money. If we take their money without due process someone will take everyone else's SS too. That's a line we must not cross. The money BELONGS to whomever paid it into SS, regardless of need.

The maximum annual earnings that are subject to Social Security tax in 2023 is $160,200, for a total tax of $9,932.40. For 2024, the amount is $168,600, for a total tax of $10,453.20. No more can be withheld from your paycheck for Social Security taxes for the year regardless of how much you earn.

This would increase funding.

2. Wonder if this baboon knows what entitlements are

He speaks about "cutting" them in a very general way. He never mentions the word Social Security or Medicare. Maybe I am reading to much into that and I am giving his ignorance and idiocy more credit than its worth.

I am sure someone has tried to educate him on entitlements but he probably zones out having a food coma after eating 25 KFC chicken wings.

Playing dumb is part of his act. He can then later claim that he was misunderstood and/or he didn't say what everyone knew he said.

The smart ones in his base know what he's all about but they don't give a fuck about anything except their wallet And in concert, they're all heading us towards a totalitarian Hitler type country. Unbelievable idiots one and all.

and his tongue on the tracks. The shock when he loses the 55+ demographic will be fun to watch.

Most people don't have any retirement except for tiny savings plus Social Security and end up working part time jobs to make ends meet until they can't work any more. TFG represents a gun pointed at their heads.

Tue Mar 12, 2024, 05:53 PM

affect people that are already on it. It'll be cuts for those people down the road and lets raise the retirement age again.

They do this for the oldsters in their base who are of the "I've got mine, screw you" mindset.
Of course, what they don't realize is that once the cuts start, they'll eventually come to their doors.
