Don Samuels Raises More Than $350,000 in Six Weeks in His Rematch Against Rep. Ilhan Omar

This is a hopeful sign. I hope he wins. It looks like people are fed-up with Omar's behavior/actions that Don Samuels characterizes as being "performative" and "self-serving".

MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 4, 2024–Former Minneapolis City Council Member Don Samuels announced today that his U.S. congressional campaign against Rep. Ilhan Omar has raised an impressive $355,397 in just six weeks with $57,481 in operating expenses, leaving $346,800 cash-on-hand as of December 31, 2023. These numbers signal a robust financial position, setting the stage for the campaign to surpass its 2022 fundraising record.

In 2022, Samuels came within 2.1% of defeating Omar in what became one of the most-watched congressional races in the country. Today, Samuels feels confident that his campaign will be triumphant with more time, resources, and better name recognition.

“With our strong fundraising efforts, I feel confident that we can take on Rep. Ilhan Omar and win in August. The Fifth Congressional District is ready for new leadership focused on supporting working families with good jobs and strong unions, lowering healthcare and housing costs, and providing public safety for all.”

In contrast, Omar raised $1,633,131 due to incumbency and a longer fundraising window, but her campaign spent more than $800,000 in the fourth quarter. The financial dynamics highlight the competitiveness of the 2024 election, with the Samuels campaign positioned as a formidable contender.

The vote was nearly unanimous except for a few who either voted against or didn't vote.

It was a vote condemning rape and murder.

If you can't do that as a rep, you aren't doing your job. Tweet all you want as a private citizen. It means nothing.

Back and forth cycle? Really? She is justifying it.

What she wrote there was clear and coherent.

Word salad means grammatically incomprehensible. It does not mean "words I disagree with" or 'words I don't believe the speaker really means"

Spare me.

I think it's time for another Democrat in that seat. One that won't smear our party and its leaders.

As the government in civics teacher, I always like to point out when inconvenient politics is actually a sign of a healthy democracy. We have healthy differences on a highly troubling issue, like when our long time democratic ally goes on a reckless killing spree against a community that's a safe haven for vile terrorists. Those complexities are going to show up in our elections only because we care deeply about two different, yet deeply conflicting causes.

I hope Omar wins. But it seems she needs the guardrails to keep her from slipping into an anti-israel stance. I wish there were still some guardrails to keep Israel from slipping into a path that leads to war crimes.

... I urge you to consider the importance of defeating the fascist Trump Party. Omar, and her ilk, and fanning the flames of the "Uncommitted" idiots who have already pivoted to a position of punishing Biden in the fall, regardless of what that outcomes means to our nation as whole. I hope you teach your students that our political system means that such self-righteous behavior empowers the opposition. We all will pay the price to satisfy Omar's personal outrage.

I can assure you being mad about tens of thousands of families being slaughtered by bombs that we helped pay for is not personal to her.

In the long run Netanyahu's heedless reckless mass bombing campaign is doing a lot more damage to Israel and to the United States than Ilhan Omar's complaints about the children that our bombs are killing.
