(13,231 posts)While it is a mouthful illiberal democracy accurately describes countries like Hungary, where Orban and his party have retained the facade of democratic institutions, subverted to keep his party in power unchecked by courts or legislatures. It is not quite the farce of one party democracies like China. There are opposition parties and they could conceivably regain power. See for example Poland, which was going down the same path Orban pioneered.
Fascist seems more descriptive to me.
