An adult life where sickos like Nixon, Lee Atwater, Newt Gingrich, Karl Rove, and Trump could say anything they liked about us, and we didn't take the gloves off. Like Harry S., President Biden gave them hell - hell with the truth. He brought righteous brass knuckles to their fist fight of lies. A part of me was thinking: Yes. Bravo Mr. President. Well done.

(47,737 posts)I've been waiting for a president like Joe and a speech like his SOTU on Thursday. So many presidential speeches are too nuanced and the wording too careful and cautious. People are less likely to be responsive, often tuning out. We frequently hear people complain that "Politicians all sound alike", which makes them less likely to trust them. Joe talks like a real person and connects with real people.

(6,876 posts)He is, after all, the actually* elected executive officer of the US of A.
* no Republican president has gotten into the Whitehouse this century by the majority of actual citizen voters. (Check controversy about 2004 outcome. They got away with it.)

(9,345 posts)During the 1948 presidential election campaign a supporter yelled out, "Give 'em Hell, Harry!" Truman replied, "I don't give them Hell. I just tell the truth about them, and they think it's Hell."
That is what Joe Biden did; He told the truth about the GOP and their Führer, it was was absolute hell for them.
