General Discussion

My youngest called and excitedly asked if I heard President Biden's speech. I told him, no, I'd fallen asleep after a very busy day. He proceeded to recap the speech for me. He got serious about explaining how Joe Biden's stutter may influence how he speaks. My son, who is my worrier, was relieved and excited.
EDIT to add: "This is what a person with good mental faculties is like when they are delivering a presentation that they are interested in and passionate about." Thank you Caliman73 for this post, and for helping to clarify what my son was expressing to me.
My 30ish year old children and their peers really listened and approved of Dark Brandon's speech. That matters a great deal. Their generation is dealing with struggling to buy homes, student debt, abortion, women rights, mass shootings, lgbtq, etc, etc. They are smart and tired of bullshit.
So from my own little sampling here in SoCal - Biden's speech was not only a hit, but inspired a lot of youngsters to action.

(11,760 posts)Anyone who questions President Biden's mental acuity after that speech is a partisan hack. This is what a person with good mental faculties is like when they are delivering a presentation that they are interested in and passionate about.
The stutter can certainly interfere, but he was quick, responsive, and on topic. Unlike Trump, when even when Trump is animated, he can't find words and his inability to admit to mistakes, makes him sound even more stupid.

(11,760 posts)I have had my own issue with President Biden. However, when there is criticism, it should be valid. Joe isn't the most eloquent speaker at all times. He is however, very knowledgeable, very compassionate, and he can connect with people in genuine ways to get things done.
There is no contest at all between Joe and Trump if we are being completely honest. The fact that Trump is even in the running is a scary statement about many people in this country.

(11,760 posts)I have said many many times and will continue. While Joe is crafty and he is a fighter but he is fundamentally a decent human being. Not that Bernie isn't but Joe is about the goodness of humanity and as such, he tries to be collaborative and strives toward consensus building. He is not a scorched earth kind of guy. He will get things done, but he doesn't like to hurt people in the process.
It goes to show you how far the Conservative movement and the Republican Party has sunk. Everyone from the older guard seemed to absolutely love Joe Biden. Lindsey Graham said as much. Now they demonize him. They have no moral or ethical center.

(36,547 posts)How refreshing to listen to someone who can discuss the issues instead of the damned water pressure. A true statesman vs a reality TV show host. A man who genuinely cares & has empathy for the people he represents instead of a self-absorbed, ego-maniac, conman.
Any criticism of Biden's performance or speech last night is just sour grapes.

(47,691 posts)It is reassuring to know that Biden has reached 30-something voters. My adult children are older than yours and they have been Biden supporters for many years. I often worry about the younger ones though. I am hopeful that many of them have seen last night's speech.

Joe totally nailed it, and today's ad included stark visuals to reinforce the crucial choice between democracy and fascism that we face.

I read your post and recommended, and it's good to see the OP that you posted on has reached the Greatest Page.

(9,928 posts)Joe stole all my key points!
Including the fact that some of us old folks THINK YOUNG!
I don't know if I ever OP'ed that post but you can be sure that I will do so as the campaign rolls on.
It's basically what I shared with my daughter.
HOPE AND PROGRESS VERSUS DYSTOPIAN GRIEVANCE AND DESTRUCTION.

(4,260 posts)effort into your excellent post. It gives them a good feeling of public sentiment, AND it saves them a lot of work. Which is fine with me. I have always wanted to contribute to Biden's success with my ideas.

(15,563 posts)What an amazing young man! Articulate and educated on the issues. He and others like him give me great hope. I sure hope the younger people do get out and vote in massive numbers. After all, it's their future. I have to believe that Biden's student loan forgiveness actions will propel more of them to vote for him. Today's GOP do not want an educated populace, so if they get more power, that could easily disappear within weeks of the "predecessor" winning. As someone who managed the student loan forgiveness program for teachers and professors at a university, I heard so many stories from those who had huge amounts of debt from pursuing their degrees.
