This was not the Joe Biden Republicans were looking for
Thursday, March 07, 2024 at 11:00:52p EST
dartagnan

That was awesome, wasn’t it?

He spoke so well, so quickly, so intelligently, and transitioned so effectively that the Republican members, decorated like NASCAR cars with their pandering buttons and hats, looked like, well… idiots.

They could not get a word in. They could not get a jeer in. They could not get a made-for-TikTok protest in.

Republicans were on their heels the entire evening. And they probably knew it from the outset.

They tried to whine about immigration and he destroyed them.

This was not the Biden that Fox News had told them to expect.

This was not the Biden that they were prepared for.

No one is paying attention to their “response.” No one cares. No one cares who jeered, who heckled, and no one cares about Marjorie Taylor Greene’s hat.

No one. President Biden won the night, and it will carry over.

This was a seminal moment in U.S. politics.

That’s all.

Liveliest SOTU speech I've ever seen.

All the Rs were sitting there chewing their cud (many were chewing gum) and remaining glued to their seats by shitgibbon butt paste. I saw that as a reveal party for who needs to be voted out of office and charged as co-conspirators of a coup.

Best Thursday evening in a long while! I even forgot to make popcorn!

Though my hypocrite mom chewed gum often, in public, even snapping her gum but we were not to be seen with it in our mouths. In school it was an evil thing and nobody was allowed to chew it on school grounds. This was in general, I never saw a grade school where that was not an unwritten rule.

I was quitting smoking. But I don't think Iwould have made it through that year without it. And that year i really didn't give a rat's patoot where I was chewing it.

That was 1976-1977, and at the time Gatorade was making or had licensed a gum with electrolytes which tasted like the original gatorade, and whether or not it was a placebo effect, that really helped more tha any other gum.

here are some paraphrased Joe Biden memes:

- Joe Biden will never have a heart attack. His heart isn't nearly foolish enough to attack him.

- Old age once crept up on Joe Biden. Old age promptly died of Joe Biden.

- Joe Biden doesn’t get old, he gets even.

- Joe Biden has birthdays but doesn't age.

- Joe Biden was exposed to the Coronavirus, now the coronavirus is in quarantine.

(There are literally thousands of "Chuck Norris isn't too old" memes on RW sites.)

Anything is possible with that asshole, but I think it unlikely that his big yet fragile ego would be able to let himself be perceived as defective for such a sustained time.

I think he sounds relatively with it while engaging in his familiar and repetitious ranting about things that matter to him, which is pretty much just himself and all the injustices he thinks he endures. He gets mushy and muddled for any other topics, and you can tell he doesn’t give damn.

Including the short-lived campaign in the 80's where he was attacked with lies. This is who he is. He is a great campaigner. You don't spend decades in the Senate in these times without being able to raise money and win. He is a decent, honest guy too. And kind, I have told this story before but during one of the campaign venues I worked, I took my college-age daughter. At the time, she suffered from anxiety. It was in Ohio at an old factory...in Youngstown I think-not sure.

And it was crowded. During the time we waited for President Biden, the crowds became too much for my daughter who promptly had an anxiety attack. She was being escorted out by security. Biden intervened. He was as always kind. He had her taken to the VIP section where it was not so crowded. She stayed for the event. This is who Biden is. He later had a picture taken of her with him. She was thrilled and still has that picture.

I suppose every Democrat and every Biden supporter watched it gavel-to-gavel, but I worry that people who might be tempted to vote for Trump might not have watched.

He blew the Republicans away and really did make them seem small, like those Skeksis in the old movie Dark Crystal.

I could not do what he just did. I would lose my voice or be exhausted near the end. Talking for 70 minutes in a row like that without even a drink of water would wipe me out.

He strolled in and talked to people for 20 minutes. Then gave a speech like that full of fire for over an hour. He then strolled out talking to people for over a half hour.

People who don’t talk for a living don’t realize how tiring that had to be. If I give a presentation at work for an hour my voice changes by the end of it and is less strong. The stamina our President is showing at 81 is unreal.
