I may be a dreamer, but I really think that horrible mistake is over. I cannot imagine why anyone would want to be associated with that group.

3. Trump is a symptom; he's not the disease.

There are lots of Trump clones in Congress and other positions of leadership, and his beliefs have been shared by many in the GOP for a very long time, well before Trumpism was a thing. Trump just made it ok to be much more open about it.

Getting rid of him will help, no doubt, but it won't cure all ills. We'll have to systematically replace as many of them as possible or hope that the GOP somehow has an epiphany.

are all issues not driven by Trump. And these things are doing pretty well in statehouses around the country. Indications that MAGA can generate its own energy. (IMO)

The Evangelical preachers may very well keep it going if it's popular with their congregations.

TSF having awakened/fanned their hate, will it die out without him to stoke it?

They don't really have any principles. This is the party that had no party platform four years ago. It was essentially "whatever catches Donnie Dirtbag's fancy that day."

On the other hand, hate is eternal and omnipresent. And hate is what they're all about.

And won't recover from Trump. The GOP is now the party of influencers and social media likes.

I haven’t heard one word from appointees, staff, or anyone who isn’t deluded enough to think he’d care that he’s done a thing for them. There are no likes or dislikes, there are transactions. Given his whole appeal is the cult of personality I don’t see how he can have an heir.

Before they were maggots they were tea party shitheads.

McCarthyism was them too. They’ve gone by different names in the decades in between.

We will outlast them, and eventually put the rock back on top of the hole once they crawl back in.

So much depends on this election.
