Trump was irresponsible with government secrets while he was in office. He was irresponsible with government secrets after he left office. And Trump is now under immense financial pressure to sell information that he possesses in order to cover his debts.
When Trump becomes the Republican nominee for president, hell be entitled once again to receive national security briefings.
In a normal world, this wouldnt happen. No responsible party would nominate for president a person who had disclosed classified information in the past, is under credible suspicion of having stolen and concealed classified information in the present, and who is under immense pressure to sell classified information in the future.
But here we are. Isnt anyone else nervous about this?

(1,898 posts)But to be honest what he has stolen and more than likely sold or traded off has pushed me past being on high alert stress day in and day out. At this point I dont think my nervous system can take much more. At this point the solution to TSF is beyond me getting more upset. I thought the * years were hard to survive but this, these unanswered criminal indictments, well all I can do is prepare for the worst because it is coming.

We can't let this Russian asset from getting anywhere near the WH, the stakes are too high. Believe him when he says he is out for revenge and retribution. He is our biggest THREAT.

I hope our intelligence departments are monitoring everything Trump does. The demented fool wants democracy to fail everywhere, but none so much as in our very own country.

(17,023 posts)Its tradition to give candidates national security briefings not law. Considering that Biden barred Trump from getting them when he oil office I dont see him allowing them because Trumps a candidate.
no way joe lets this happen.

(15,368 posts)It's not a law, it's a tradition started by Harry Truman.
There is no way the Biden administration would provide intel briefings to the sickfuck.
It's just not going to happen. In fact, if the unthinkable were to happen, the 14TH Amendment is probably going to be revisited during the transfer of power.
I have been extremely dismissive of the idea, but I don't see how we avoid a 2ND Civil War to put down these insurrectionist.
Hopefully, enough people will understand the actual impact of this election and vote like their very way of life is it stake.
We won't need to worry about the destruction of NATO if that fuckstick wins. We'll need to worry if NATO countries allie against a Russian/US alliance and go to war with us.

(4,158 posts)President Biden is not willingly going to give any classified information to anyone who is credibly accused of mishandling such classified information to the egregious extent that Trump has been.
If POTUS authorises Trump to have anything it will be declassified summaries.

(855 posts)While it's not required, he could be the recipient of "not so real" info. Then when that info shows up elsewhere, there will be no question of guilt. Imagine the consternation he must go through. He gets briefings but if he let's "others" know what they are, he may be set up. Ketchup all over the walls.
It's happened before. Maybe not with presidential candidates but it happens in secure private work. Certain, ah, groups take a very dim view of that.
Make it so. Can't wait.

(10,788 posts)Biden should say that just to drive home the point that Trump couldn't possibly qualify. Of course the Rs would put up a fuss and insist on the briefings, but we need the media reporting why Biden is resisting, which would be because national security is his responsibility now, and TFG simply cannot be trusted.
If he does get them, I hope Biden's people are familiar with the kind of briefings Donny is said to have hated.
Or, how about this: Feed TFG false intel and see if it ends up in Russia.

(79 posts)Thanks for the reminder, and there is good reason to be alarmed.
(And this is the part where I shift from concern to sarcasm...):
If I recall correctly, TFG could not be bothered with briefings, and needed them delivered as single-pagers (which might look at after his Executive Time). So, why not super-simplify the content to something more redacted:
+ "Something happened."
+ "Credible intelligence was successfully collected with the help from someone."
+ Etc.
But yes, sarcasm aside... This is both crazy and alarming.
candidate briefings are very cursory and not in depth

(7,638 posts)to do so. Not only nominees but often former presidents can get briefings at the discretion of the current president. This is so that they can be consulted on thorny issues that they may have gad to deal with in the past . For nominees the idea is to help facilitate transition should they win.
Given that President Biden had already cut access to these courtesy briefings for Trump, I doubt he will enable it again.

(23,812 posts)He is a danger to our country's democracy and security and the lives of all our service people. But he has used the legal system to slow walk any credible action against him. The six conservative Supreme Court Justices are compliant in any failure of the US Constitutional system.
That's why Joe Biden must win. The Democrats must keep control of the Senate and win the House of Representatives. Then enlarge the SC to 12 members and immediately appoint 3 new members.
I know this is a pipe dream to get all 3, but it's the only way I can see we can get our Nation back on the road to a strong Democracy.

(3,733 posts)Remember, he said, as president, that he doesn't attend daily security briefings, because they tell him the same thing every time and he found them boring.
Now of course, if Obama or Biden had said the same thing, all hell breaks out among the cons. But it's trump, so, meh.

(31 posts)The unpaid debts and bankruptcies would disqualify him for a security clearance. People have had their clearances pulled for less than he has done. That alone should disqualify him from being considered for presidency. Should have been yelled when he was running against Hillary. Needs to be plastered every where.

(50 posts)There are many reasons why TSF should not have access to such information. Primarily that he stands accused of mishandling such information. If anything, I would suggest giving him false info monitoring his communications. If he is found to be passing the information on, arrest him.
As Beau would say, its just a thought.
