Why Mitch McConnell decided to step down from leadership in November?

He simply could not stand the idea of defending Donald Trump any longer, if he was elected President. He could see the writing on the wall. He knew what he would be asked to do.

He is fearful of what Donald Trump will do if elected in November. He does not want to be connected to him in any way.

But, it is too late.

McConnell had his chances and he blew it. He wanted to go down in history as creating a conservative Supreme Court. Instead, he will go down in history as creating a dictator that destroyed democracy in America.

Thanks a lot, Mitch!

He figured out he wouldn't get support from the other assholes next year - they know what shape he's in.

Besides, he might be awash in Russian money so doesn't need the job anymore.

Awfully quiet. While Mitch isn’t much of a talker, he has been more visible in the past. He is unhealthy, and unable to lead.

He installed a right-wing Supreme Court that will twist this country for years to come.

for a long time. I hope that he suffers in his time off and see his legacy (what little there is) dissolve right in front of him.

He is not well-liked by the hard Right and never has been. Yes, he gave them the Supreme Court, but they feel he's pro-corporate over pro-conservative, and that does not sit well with what is an increasingly populist party.

The bipartisan immigration bill was the final straw for these people.

By saying, "I'm leaving in November" he can avoid all that. He says he'll stay in the Senate until the end of his term, but it's going to be like McCarthy. He'll see if he can sniff around to keep power after November, and if he can't, he'll bounce.

That would open a can of bees in Kentucky with replacing him, but I doubt he cares.

If he's stepping down it's for a health reason.
