Mehdi Hasan joins The Guardian

I am very glad for The Guardian and Mehdi, and especially for us. He's a great reporter.

From a Guardian email:

We were thrilled yesterday to announce a new regular columnist to the Guardian US: journalist and broadcaster Mehdi Hasan. I’m sure Mehdi is familiar to many of you from MSNBC, where he hosted The Mehdi Hasan Show until last month.

As our editor Betsy Reed put it, “When Mehdi left MSNBC, many of us hoped it wouldn’t take long for him to return to the public square. We are so excited to provide a platform for his essential political commentary, fearless accountability journalism and relentless championing of human rights and free speech.”

You can read Mehdi’s first column now – Biden can end the bombing of Gaza right now. Here’s how – and he’ll be writing for us at least monthly going forward.

got bounced from MSNBC for asking "too many questions" about our supposed "proof" to justify the invasion of Iraq? I sure do. Remember when we would occasionally see some of the people from Air America show up as commentators on MSNBC? I sure do. Remember how it went away? I sure do. When Ed started showing up and doing live remotes at companies that were on strike the handwriting was on the wall. Hey MSNBC you kept killing off your top rated shows. So the message was clear. You can go a certain distance but no further. I remember.

That's why it has always been a fallacy for people who argue the First Amendment and say that false speech and press can simply be countered by truthful speech and press. It was true, somewhat, when we had the Fairness Doctrine. But when the megaphones, TV's, radios and printing presses are controlled by just a few and they mostly have the same agenda then contrary speech stands fighting to be heard in a rigged game.

He sure can. He can send in the airforce, take out their air defences, bomb their airfields, and shoot down all their planes.
