Mary Trump rips Jon Stewart for bringing back the same B.S. ... that helped Donald get elected in 2016?
Excellent piece. Mary Trump's quote:
Stewart will host the show on Monday nights between now and the election, he indicated. Hell also head the election coverage of The Daily Show as an executive producer.
She pointed to one of Stewarts jokes as an example: Were not suggesting neither man is vibrant, productive, or even capable Stewart told his viewers. But they are both stretching the limits of being able to handle the toughest job in the world.

(15,393 posts)There are no excuses here. Stewart knows who Donald is. Donald isnt vibrant. He is compulsive and unhinged. Donald isnt productive. He is inept. Donald isnt capable. He is a disaster. ...
I dont even care that he brought up President Bidens age. ... The fact of the matter is, Biden is old. Its absurd to pretend otherwise, so, lets just own it. Its that Stewart is pretending ... that Donald can be favorably compared to President Biden by any metric. This is a serious question: What possible purpose does that serve, especially since it is completely wrong?
She continued: President Biden is an elder statesman with experience to get things done that can give American democracy a fighting chance. The alternative?

(1,351 posts)I was excited to see Jon Stewart back. However, I found myself not only vastly disappointed--but not the least bit entertained either. I sat there stone-faced, waiting for the joke, and instead felt like Jon Steward had become Bill Maher-lite.
Watching the small portion of the show that I did (had to turn it off), my impression was that Jon Stewart has gotten a bit caught up in his own identity as some sort of "cut through the bullshit truth teller". The show seemed more about him (Jon Stewart) proving he's "not afraid to call it as I see it", but his "vision" is coming from someone extremely privileged. Easy to be complacent about the real risks Trump presents when you've got millions in the bank and thus don't need to worry about your 401K tanking, or losing your healthcare, or losing your Social Security. I think Jon's monologue would have been quite different if he was "calling it and seeing it" from the perspective of the average citizen.
I won't be watching it again. I imagine next Monday's show he'll spend the vast majority doubling down and defending his stance. No thanks.

(1,993 posts)Trump does suck and if he gets elected again, it will be disastrous for our country.
I did not watch Stewart but if he is trying to play the both sides card, I have no interest in what he is saying. Trump is an evil person and Biden is not.

(6,676 posts)Who complain ad nauseam about how we have the same candidates as before, many
other complaints too.
The two party state combined with the Electoral Collage has them on the edge of insanity if you talk to them at all. Stewart talked about it and I think it may be part of a larger strategy for him to speak to those issues. Who knows, maybe some young Magas who never have watched his show are targets.
It brings up many of my own worries to. When I talk to people in their 30s especially.
I keep saying GO VOTE, its So Important but they are despondent.
I worry for them all. I hear despair from so many .
Now is not the time to try and change those issues. After the election, maybe?
Voting is the ONE action that matters.

(15,393 posts)I believe that the threats to our form of government are not on its structure, but because we have accepted an independent amoral crass money-driven set of politicians and lobbyists and money to decide on what issues we can see and vote on.
Basically the artificial "Democrat" and "Republicon" parties are the governance instead of the elected officials that represent their consituents.
Money is the basis of all evil. Capitalism is legalized theft.
Comedy Central is owned by Viacom, who demand that Jon Stewart engages in copious amounts of "bothsiderism"

(25,713 posts)Democrats get mad -- Biden isn't a power-hungry insane senile egomaniac dictator who'd refuse to step down if he couldn't do the job, kill us all with nuclear bombs because he pressed the wrong button. Nobody is saying Biden is young and his age is a hoax. Nobody remembers the eight years he was VP, the joke memes with Obama, jokes about his gaffes?
People who believe both sides see nothing wrong with the false equivalency, it's truth to them. The rest of us live in the real world.
I saw the movie "Irresistible," a political satire, and the false equivalency was immediate. I was confused until I looked it up. Jon Stewart movie. Fantasy world where there isn't any policy or personality difference between Republicans and Democrats, everyone is nice and wants to raise taxes, built schools, help The People.

(7,536 posts)He had excellent players like Colbert and Black, who would lead into Stewart's reactions to stories - which to me seemed to be mostly mugging for the camera without a lot of wit. Then he held the both sides BS rally, which showed to me he is more about himself and doesn't have near the understanding of our country that he thinks he does.

(1,708 posts)Stewart's wording leaves room to say he was not describing Trump that way. He said "we're not saying that neither man is ... " which could mean that ONE (and only one) of the two men IS.
Still not a great way to word it, and I was fairly disappointed just like most here, but I like Stewart enough to at least give him another chance without saying "stick a fork in him, he's done."

Then I was disturbed his making nice to O,'Reilly.
Then I was pissed his pandering to Glen Beckkk's come together rally in DC.

Then more with the Jerry LEWIS preaching and scolding for his charity.
Now back, couldn't make it?
