I give up trying to look at DU on my iPad. Anybody else?
I’ve happily used my iPad for years while lounging in my recliner or just before I go to sleep at night, but now the ads have just taken over completely. There’s no way I can even see the title of the posts. I took a screenshot but it doesn’t even show the new thing where on the very little text I can see suddenly new ads appear in that part of the page and obliterate everything.
Is anybody else having this problem or am I the only one or did you find a workaround? Thanks for any help!
Oh well, can’t post screenshots I guess, maybe someone knows what I’m talking about.
I know, I know, pay for no ads but I’m 72 years old trying to keep life going by working 7 days a week delivering things, my cat suddenly has 2 tumors and my dog is WAY past his $60 visit to the groomer. They come first

1. The ad problem is easily solved by becoming a Star Member. I think all photos,

screenshots, etc., have to be hosted somewhere on the internet to post here. Not an expert, though.

3. You could try reader mode

but it only shows you OPs. Or do what I do, pay a small amount and all the ads go away.

4. I use Duckduckgo as my browser, it eliminates ads

and Duckduckgo is free. It was recommended to me by another DU poster.

Honestly, I think it's a poor business model by DU, but as of now it exists as such. Currently you'd even get a heat to give to someone!

I use an iPad Pro here predominantly. Even when not logged in I never see anything but space savers for the Ads due to my Ad blocker. Maybe look into one of those, but generally the better ones cost more than the $1 for a membership.

7. I only do DU on a full-size desktop computer---

except for once or twice I tried it on my smartphone---
it was ok to read, but I never tried to post on it that way....

9. My iPad works good on DU and everywhere else using a $2 app

called Purify to get rid of ads, although I don’t need it here since I have a star membership anyway. When I’m not signed in to DU Purify blocks all the ads here. If you can afford 2 bucks one time you might want to check out Purify for a solution to your ad problem.

10. I can't get my tablet

to show DU the way it used to. My eyes are bad and my android tablet sucks but I have no options. I have tried and tried to make it user friendly like it was for 7 years but I just can't seem to get it to do it. It has limited my time on DU since I can't see the stuff I used to see so easily and clearly.

I am not tech savvy and got ripped off by scammers last week and had to change all my bank accounts, checks, computers, phones and have them "cleaned" and I am still upset of this. No way am I going to try ANYTHING new with tech now...I am paranoid and that will not change. I don't know anyone who can show me how to do it unless I pay them and the scammers cost me a lot of $$$$$ already.

I am not very familiar with tech terms and I was on the verge of tears for days (and still am) since all these tech people started asking me and telling me about stuff I was not familiar with. I even threw up at one point. It is really like Greek to me. I have no idea what they are talking about but I am a very visual person (an artist) and need to see it to even begin to comprehend it. I think that is one reason the scammers got me.

Tomorrow or Tuesday I may get my computer back and the cleaners told me stuff on the phone that I didn't even understand. It is very frustrating for me since I live alone and can't ask for assistance.

Can I ask you for help after I get my computer back this week? Maybe you can help me with seeing DU on my tablet and if I have questions regarding my newly "cleaned computer" perhaps you can help me understand the set-up since I think I have to start from scratch when I set it up 13 years ago. Tech and I have never gotten along very well.

14. What Works for Me

I use an app called Adblock Plus to stop ads on my iPad. It’s free and it does a great job. You can also make a small (even tiny) contribution to DU to become a Star member, which should block ads.

If you are having trouble reading the text in DU, you can switch to the ‘use large fonts’ option under ‘My DU - Account Settings’ . I find that setting quite useful, but you should be aware that large font can’t be used while in ‘Skinner’ mode (original DU settings). Hope this helps.

I had this problem. Buying some hearts fixed it for whatever reason. The overlap of pop up ads appearing over column s 1 and 2 made the site unreadable as the OP complained.
