I hated to do it, but I canceled my NY Times subscription.

I don’t know how else to get through to them that they are falling far short of high journalistic standards. Just glance through their “Opinion” page and see all the attacks on Biden.

Biden has not sat down with them for an interview during his presidency, and they feel "dissed." Thus, a sort of revenge. "See what happens when you don't do what we want?" I wish I had a subscription to cancel.

Biden "hasn't had an interview with a major newspaper." IOW, he hasn't sat down with the NYT, and lord we can't have that.

You're right about them both being insufferable.

We all mock the ones who get their information only from Fox, or YouTube (YouTube?) so I think that DUers should make an extra effort to be exposed to all sources, even if posting them here violates the rules.

But individually we should.

People have different points of view on what those facts mean, or they have different opinions based on differing values, it can be valuable to read those. But where there is substantial distortion of facts, or an unjustified weighting of some facts, that is another matter. And that’s what I have seen too often from the NYT. I will keep my WaPo subscription and read The Guardian and other sources. But it is time for the NYT to do a very serious reckoning.

To the L. A. Times instead. It’s my local paper.
I know the NYT has very good articles but I can’t take the bullshit they keep putting out. It’s one thing to have a different point of view but it’s an entirely different thing to treat both sides as the same when the facts are there for everyone to see. If they ever straighten that out I will consider renewing.

I’ll miss games, cooking and many news items. But I feel as small a gesture as this is, I had to do something for my own peace of mind.

As far as reading only progressive sources, I feel no guilt. I read and support the Guardian and ProPublica because I think they are great exemplars of responsible journalism, unlike much of the Times’ bothsiderism. I don’t use my money to support a source with which I frequently disagree.

St. Louis Post Dispatch and Globe Democrat used to be great papers and I never saw any need to look at the NYT.

So personally, I'd love to see it fail.

Detail on my (and others’) decision. Go to the opinion page and see the biased presentation of multiple articles, and you’ll ask yourself why the Times didn’t insist on higher quality pieces, and then, “why am I paying to read this s&@t, again?”

The Times has had long standing problems of this type, in its reporting and editorializing. They are so fearful of criticism from the right when they tell the truth, that they bend over backwards to appear “fair and balanced.”

the republican rejection of global warming.

From my perspective, I doubt that will make a change toward journalistic integrity at the NYTimes.

I believe they have made a conscious decision, like much of the MSM to move toward "bothsiderisms", instead of actually reporting news and facts. That alone accounts for a right wing shift.

This all started when bernard goldberg pushed his "liberal media" bullshit in his book Bias, which was embraced by fox, while others in the MSM moved toward reporting both sides do it when covering their stories.

Ironically, there is very little evidence of a "liberal media" today, and in fact there is a lot of evidence of a right wing media and bias. When 90% of the airwaves are dominated by conservative viewpoints, it should be no surprise we are where we are today.

It is all about money, and that is where they believe the money is, not with reporting the news.
