Pennsylvania is named after William Penn. Somewhere in the right wing white supremacist infosphere, some idiot has speculated that if the libs are allowed to continue on the path they set when they renamed all the military bases named after Confederate generals, they will no doubt apply the same logic to any "white settler colonialist" (a lefty term that the right is using to some advantage). Therefore, they will remove the name of Pennsylvania because it celebrates a white settler colonialist (par excellence, really). If this comes from the deep cut right wing infosphere, they will also invoke the Latin term for forest (or woods), sylvania, since these dipshits also have a (completely ahistorical) fetish for classical antiquity, and especially Rome. So, "Penn's Woods," which has the double conservative value of being both a colonialist term (Anglo-Christian Penn seized these lands by force and "settled" them), and using the Latin term for woods, must be defended from renaming.
Long story short, somewhere in the demented right wing brain, the left is "coming for" Pennsylvania the way it did for Fort Bragg.
Now, all of this will be extremely vague in Trump's mind, since he barely gives a shit about any of that, but recognizes it as a way to rile up the suckers. He has a vague sense that the "renaming" thing plays to his advantage, so he is constantly referencing the military base/Confederate general thing. Somebody probably mentioned the Pennsylvania nuttery, which plays the same argument, so he went with it. His only understanding of the whole matter (which he does agree with) is that the (not-real-American) people of color and their white socialist enablers are trying to steal America's (white racist) heritage, which is the ony thing other than himself that he actually has any commitment to.
