and I wouldn't want any move now to interfere with the election.
It's one thing for the AG to be nonpartisan, it's another to try this hard to look non partisan by appointing partisan attorneys to look into the President and his family.
The AG is not the President's lawyer, but he serves at his pleasure and should reflect his priorities.

(38,623 posts)Never appoint someone who would have been fine during normal times. As long as there are Republicans - or ANY racist apologist anti-democratic political parties - we won't have really normal times. Endit.

(54,506 posts)It is highly unusual for a cabinet member to remain at the post for more than four years.
Although I highly doubt she'd want it, I'd beam with delight at seeing Hillary Clinton take the AG's post for Biden's second term. I'd bet that Clarence Thomas's resignation would come within 48 hours of Garland's.

(7,561 posts)Obama knew any nominee was DOA anyway so he forced the reliably cynical GOP to stonewall Garland, against whom it had no plausible non partisan objection, without a Senate hearing.

(709 posts)but I believe it is a tradition for all cabinet members to submit a letter of resignation before the second term. Then the President can decide whos to accept and whos to reject.

(17,442 posts)But it is quite rare for cabinet officials to stay on a full 8 years.

There is an unwritten tradition in Washington that cabinet secretaries all submit pro forma letters of resignation at the end of a first term for a re-elected president, but apparently it doesn't really work that way.
