(22,479 posts)(Also, few Christian non-Catholics give a shit about what any pope says and believe the Catholic Church is the whore of Babylon anyway, so.)

(19,383 posts)Im sorry, modern evangelical christians have no standing to tell anyone what is or is not a sin. They cherry pick verses from Scripture that confirms their ow political and social biases, while ignoring the core teaching of the Lord they claim to follow. Its interesting that Jesus spoke often about people like modern evangelicals and had a word for them: Hypocrites.

(6,942 posts)and I might note that, he was appointed by a large number of Cardinals. That doesn't make a difference to me - but I would iexpect it to make a differennce for those to whom appointment is important.

(7,187 posts)who deserve bodily autonomy and equality in the church and in society? I'll not hold my breath.
I'll never understand why any liberal would continue to support the medieval male-supremacist Catholic Church.

(1,478 posts)No Pope has the authority to allow women clergy. That would be like asking when the President repeal the 2nd Amendment.

Like I said, I cannot understand why any liberal would continue to support this corrupt, women-hating institution.
Of course, there are plenty of other horrible misogynistic religious institutions worldwide, but this story involves the still ridiculously powerful Catholic Church specifically. And the RCC has conducted its reign of terror against women for many centuries.

(7,187 posts)the Unitarian Church. From what I know from the outside, that organization seems more about building community and doing good works. You don't even have to buy into any supernatural nonsense to be accepted there. Many attendees are agnostics or atheists. But, yeah, overall, probably 98 percent of these institutions suck.

(7,187 posts)the people heaping praise on Francis for being so liberal and enlightened are ignoring that he still heads a very powerful women-hating grifting institution thats stuck in the Middle Ages.

So Christ had no female disciples? May I point out that he had no Europeans either.
DenaliDemocrat
(1,478 posts)He did not have female Apostles. The Catholic Church bases the priesthood on Apostolic Succession.
Sacred tradition among Catholics will never allow a female priesthood. No Pope can change that. It will never happen and I just shake my head at the people who try to say it will happen or petition. Its never happening. My advice would be to change Churches.

They have to scoop that money up quickly, lest some local do-gooder decides to help the impoverished or some other outrageous act of christianity.
There are ecumenical investment portfolios to fatten, and crystal cathedrals to build, you know?
