At this point nothing illegal has happened. Musk can sue anyone he wants (however flimsy the claim is) and Paxton can investigate anything he wants.

The base is applauding today, however there are many of these throw a bone to the base things that in the end, nothing actually happens. However the base was temporarily riled up, and as usual they will forget all about it and construct an alternative reality in their minds that, Media Matters was punished somehow. And it is possible that Media Matters will self censor a bit more just in case.

No it isn't. Media Matter has been criticized by the right for years, because of the way it targets RW media and reporting. They're not going to be scared off by Musk's performative lawsuit.

nb: MM was founded by David Brock 20 years ago, and with American Bridge it has been do excellent oppo research, without any need to pull its punches. (I know David and the leadership team)

investigating Fox News. Maybe Musk's whole gambit is the blow a whole in any regulation on the internet so the right wing can take back the Freeeeedom thing they lost when they decided it was a State's job to follow women, in the ovulating phase of their lives, around and make sure they don't cross a border when pregnant.

(Not saying that Media Matters actually did whatever they are accusing)

and the fact that they choose to put "fraudulently" in front of "manipulated data" (there's any other purpose to manipulating data?)

It's tough to dispute that the ads appeared next to neo-nazi posts. So unless they are claiming that the screen shots are fabricated, they don't have a case.
