Who wore it better?
Hamas "headquarters" or a random American family?
Quite the illustrative picture isn't it?
Food for thought 🤔

(4,741 posts)It wasn't a 'random family' with Hamas. It was a bunch of them working together. So your analogy fails on that score. Terrorists working together can get a great deal done. Imagine how much worse OKC would have been if there had been more than McVeigh and Nichols looking for targets to take down.
But if you want to get technical, 'random' right-wing families have murdered thousands of people throughout US history. 50 here, 25 there--it adds up.
The number doesn't matter. The killing does.

(2,547 posts)I can't believe they put a Kel-Tec and a Charter Arms in the same picture with the FN's and the Steyr. Have they no shame?
Think. Again.
(9,186 posts)...is that ALL they found in the "headquarters"???
RainWalker
(605 posts)Think. Again.
(9,186 posts)...all I've been hearing says that was an important hamas location.
If hamas is so ill-equipped, what the hell is Israel so afraid of? Wipe them out in an afternoon and be done with it!
maxsolomon
(33,504 posts)How many should there be in an abandoned post?
Think. Again.
(9,186 posts)...a main hamas location, I would think there would be a warehouse of rocket launchers, missiles, crates of grenades, etc.
IDF is a multi-billion dollar operation. If they're up against a yard sale table of mix and match guns, this thing should have been over by nightfall on 10/7.

I guess whether that's a lot of weapons varies by individual.

(3,185 posts)progressive gun owners who actually support the 2nd amendment. I don't own the amount of weapons in the second picture, but I'm not a terrorist like the weapon owners in the first picture. Which includes automatic weapons, explosives, RPGs and a suicide vest. I don't see any of those things in the 2nd picture ... do you?
Think. Again.
(9,186 posts)...if that is what the multi-billion dollar/year IDF considers a lot of weapons, I'm completely lost.
And the tunnel in the second tweet? Really?
I hate hamas and want them ended forever now, but seriously, I thought they were a big operation?

Because they're certainly not in any of those pictures.

(1,934 posts)That Hamas is a heavily armed terrorist organization? Im pretty sure you can do an Internet search and find videos and photos of all the hundreds and hundreds of civilians murdered on October 7 by Hamas using pistol, rifle and grenade.
Think. Again.
(9,186 posts)...we're discussing the weapons that has IDF found since then and so far no evidence exists that hamas is still heavily armed, in contradiction to their statements that they are.
Wingus Dingus
(8,059 posts)No evidence that they attack, slaughter, rape, burn and otherwise terrorize anyone else. So big fat fucking fail on this post.
RainWalker
(605 posts)All you have to do is look at the background of mass shooters to see how they were raised. Most come from very conservative families like Kyle Rittenhouse and Dylan Roof.

RainWalker
(605 posts)And I'm not looking to argue with you.
The reason I posted this was to illustrated that our gun problem in America is so bad that we're more heavily armed than terrorists.
Think about that for a moment. It's astounding.

(88 posts)That's a false comparison. Americans own a lot of things that would outnumber the population of Denmark. Reminds me of a story about thirty years ago about Canadian clear cuts. I do.

(9,186 posts)What is going on with this thread????
We all know Americans have a crazy amount of weapons, but if that photo is correct, hamas's weapon collection might be a lot smaller than we thought.
But where does fooling anyone come in to it?

(1,315 posts)But I don't believe it's in the way you wanted me to.
Think. Again.
(9,186 posts)...we know hamas has weapons and that they terrorize innocent civilians, even using hospitals as cover, what's surprising is how few weapons they seemed to have.
Was the narrative that got ruined that they have a lot of weapons?

(1,654 posts)You say you meant "Look, Americans are such gun nuts that they have more guns than a terrorist organization!"
But people obviously interpreted your message as, "Look, this terrorist organization isn't that dangerous. They don't even have as many guns as a random American family."
I can see how it could be meant either way. I do think that given the arguments on DU over the last month, it did feel more likely that you were commenting on the Israel-Gaza war and not American gun culture. You say that's not what you meant, and now that you've cleared it up, I believe you. But I think you can probably also see why people took it the other way, especially given the original wording of the post subject.

(24,914 posts)We live in a very quiet urban neighborhood. Like no crime really ever. Yet two carjackings (first time in over 10 years here) have happened in the last week. Both involved guns. I am fucking sick of guns being EVERYWHERE! FUCKING SICK OF THEM.
and sick of the supporters of guns everywhere.
Sick of them.

(605 posts)This country has a problem and sadly many are addicted.
TexasDem69
(1,934 posts)But this might be take the cake. Who in the fuck cares how many guns someone legally owns in the US? That family isnt doing anything wrong (at least based on the picture), while Hamas is currently engaged in terrorism, child murder, and attempted genocide using their guns. My neighbor legally owning a bunch of guns doesnt concern me or keep me up at night.

SYFROYH
(34,187 posts)Do they bother you?
Shooting and killing Jews and other civilians at a EDM festival and kibbutz bothers me.
Does that bother you?
RainWalker
(605 posts)Because this country has a massive gun problem. Many mass shootings are committed with guns that were legally purchased. The people doing the shootings were often "good responsible gun owners" until they weren't.
SYFROYH
(34,187 posts)The vast majority of legally owned guns are never used in crimes let alone violence. When you treat gun owners as criminals you reinforce resistance to any changes that might be helpful to reduce gun violence. This is why gun control has largely been failing for the last 20 years.
RainWalker
(605 posts)And guns ARE the problem.
We need to do exactly what Australia did. And the reason nothing gets done about the problem is because of 2A which needs to be abolished in my opinion and because of our elected lawmakers are scared to death of doing the right thing to save lives.
Now maybe my stance is a bit radical with 2A but this isn't the 1700s. The world looks nothing like it did when it was written. Applying outdated laws to a modern situation leads to Sandy Hook and Uvalde happening.
SYFROYH
(34,187 posts)But I would have to work against any politician or group who wants to confiscate guns.

(3,064 posts)Cleaner, looks like better maintained, and the actual owners stuck around for the picture. And, as other posters have stated, I bet none of those guns in Pic 2 have been used in a brutal assault.
