So did Trump tell these third-party insects it was time to come out of the woodwork?

First Manchin (who has hinted) and Stein (who outright said it). I hope this pic of Stein and Michael Flynn with Putin gets put up EVERYWHERE.

They've been playing that game to torpedo Democratic votes since they saw how well Perot killed GHWB's second term. Nader was their first successful try.
They didn't plan on Obama being popular or Biden beating TFG, especially after Shrub's poor performance that didn't hinder his re-election much, so long as the Swift-boating of Kerry and voting machine shenanigans kept the Democrats at bay.
