even though they were given tons of outside money to run for a position that has no pay associated with it. I am so proud of our Democrats paying close attention to these smaller elections that the republicans have come to rely on to take over power. Truthfully, power comes at the school board, town and city mayors, city council, board supervisors... that is the true power base... we tend to concentrate on the big offices and forget where the true power is..
Well NO MORE!! that was awesome.. Never count Iowa out .. so proud of all our Democrats all over the country..

(22,911 posts)I know they did not win anything in my town either.. I had been following the Cedar Rapids race because of the money coming from the outside to try and get the mfl candidates elected. That was just crazy.. The uber right is sinking tons of money into tiny elections to take over the country.. and the majority suddenly has no idea why books that they read growing up are being banned.. just so happy to see people pay attention

(101,501 posts)Frinstance, in Pennsylvania, where the Mad Moms endorsed more than 50 candidates in 28 districts, the Moms had some wins here and there, with three Moms-endorsed candidates taking seats on the Nazareth Area School Board, and winning at least seven seats on several Cumberland County school boards. But in a couple of the Cumberland County races, Republican candidates said on their websites that they rejected endorsements by the Moms and related PACs; two of those candidates lost, and two won.
But elsewhere, Moms-backed candidates got stomped. Notably, voters in the Pennridge School District in Bucks County elected Democrats to all five open seats, taking the majority away from the rightwing majority that had previously won with Moms for Liberty support. While they held power, that crowd had a rightwing field day, as Forbes reports:
...
Democrats won all five open seats in Central Bucks, taking the majority on the board.
...
Thats pretty much how school board races went all over: Moms-backed candidates lost in Minnesota and North Carolina, and in Loudoun County, Virginia, where there were near-riots at school board meetings over critical race theory and panic about trans kids in 2021, liberal candidates took a six-seat majority on the nine-seat board, pledging to put actual schooling and student progress over culture warring.

If I should live another ten years, I hope to see him as either Governor or Senator (or both), and in either position, he will do Iowa proud.

(22,911 posts)DFW I think, hope , pray, that our citizens in Iowa are seeing sanity, continuity, the ability to relate to our elected officials, and it really does start with Sand. The current uber right is not a conservative group.. they really are unrelatable to peoples daily lives.. the first step in any journey is half the distance.. Don't give up on Iowa.. or any state.. Dr Dean had it right all along and so did President Obama, and President Carter (who started both their journeys in Iowa)..
What people want is stability.. this reality show craziness being demonstrated on a national scale by the republicans in the Congress is scaring the bejebus out of people

(54,698 posts)I met Rob around 7 (?) years ago or so when he was just starting his first campaign for State Auditor. We were both attending a gathering in South Carolina, and he was forlornly looking for something to do for dinner one night. I invited him to come out with us to a Lebanese place we liked. He had never had Lebanese food before, but is now a fan.
Later on, maybe four months after that, we both happened to be in Washington on the same day, and after lunch, he was having a fund raiser at someone's NW home. While there, I told him, he should ask Howard Dean for some pointers. Rob said he'd love to, but had no idea how to get in touch with Howard. I said, well, here's how, took out my cell phone, dialed Howard, told Howard who Rob was, and handed him the phone. I thought they were going to talk for five minutes, but they talked for half an hour. Howard later told me that he was impressed with Rob, and Rob did indeed win his race. I told him years ago that he needed to be looking toward higher office. He didn't think so then, but I think he's ready now. Iowa TV stations love him (I've seen clips), and he's not an unknown any more.

(2,244 posts)by a good margin, ensuring a 3-2 Democratic majority for the county supervisors, this is San Diego county, so a big win with no margin to lose! So yeah, I'm very happy today too. It was the only item on my ballot.

(62,554 posts)I am not really sure because I am kind of out of touch these days.
I think we got one burner, one progressive and one I do not know. The holdovers are very progressive.
Our city council and new mayor are quite progressive, so that is good.

(24,491 posts)haven't figured out a way to translate money into actual votes. We can still win if we show up no matter how much money they sink into these races. Also, I love that they basically wasted all that money on a bunch of losers.
