(4,992 posts)If you enter a dark room, you can't package up the darkness and take it out. The only way to "remove" the darkness is to turn on the light.
I've been taking that as parallel to "the dog turned on its master" or "the soldier turned on his friends."
Oops.
At least it's not as confusing as it was.

(3,041 posts)TD Canada Trust had a banking software meltdown that messed up all the direct deposits and automatic bill payments.
What a nightmare.

(12,406 posts)Money transferred between my two banks is somewhere "in the ethers."
CNN story says it is a nationwide problem.... Employee error at Federal Reserve is responsible.

(9,111 posts)My partner and I have our own bank accounts and one joint account for shared expenses like the mortgage, bills, etc. We just Zelle things back and forth.
Earlier in the year, Zelle went down overnight after I had sent my share of that month's bills to the joint account. The money was gone from my account, and it hadn't appeared in the joint account. It was thousands of dollars.
That was a morning, lemme tell ya.

(6,823 posts)It was most noticeable in my debit card transactions.
Like if I spend 22.00 at Walgreens usually by the time I'm getting in my car I hear ding ding and the bank has sent me a text about the debit.
I was getting those two and three days after the fact. And in no particular order,
some other things too--- those messages were delayed like on automated payment to a charge card.
Yesterday there was a notice on the account website that they were experiencing delays in these altho right now I am not seeing it so much. So go figure.
During all this everything has always been up to date if I looked at the account on line, although last weekend there was a period one morning it wasn't available.

(13,551 posts)direct deposit from SS yesterday-not big national bank. Looked at my mothers account- at large national bank-and saw the message, but she also got her SS yesterday thankfully. I manage her account and bills because I am her power of attorney. Hopefully the auto withdrawals coming Monday will happen.

(152 posts)Most are locally operated and run by members who have an interest in providing services at reasonable rates for fellow employees. I know personally most members of the governing board of our CU, as do many of the members. They don't need to provide profits for shareholders because the members are the shareholders. It certainly works well for our family.

(65,168 posts)Around 15 years, 10 of them as a board officer for a community chartered CU with around $300 million in assets.
As a member of the executive committee, I had regular contact with folks from other credit unions.
One finds pretty darned good people around credit unions.

(51,004 posts)my number. It is far from my home, so I very seldom go in person.
The people working there greeted most of the people who came in by name and asked about their families. There were many hugs between the workers and the customers. It was such a nice thing to see.
AND they made me a new card on the spot.
Love them.

(297 posts)I started with a CU, tried a bank out one time.
With a bank, they act like the local branch is Fort Knox or the Pentagon. Need a damn ID and a debit card to deposit a check.
My CU? They see me in their window walking to the door, they remember me, and are already pulling up my account on their computer. By the time I'm at the teller counter, they're all ready. While I'm in there, they ask me how my family's doing.
Credit unions rock.

(15,812 posts)Their website login has been down fairly often, which is highly unusual. Now I'm seeing early morning balances that don't make sense - the corresponding debits aren't there for hours. It's like they're manually inputting them.
I still am a "co-owner" on my grown kids' accounts, so I see it playing out in their balances too. (I see their accounts because they're still linked, so when I login, I see their info too. One kid has managed to disconnect one of their accounts from my viewing, which is great. The other one still hasn't made a move on any of his accounts.
Anyway, it's all weird. It's a reasonably mid-sized credit union with plenty of branches in my general area. I can still walk in and sit down with a banker.
I'm with you on the not using banks. We haven't for decades now.

(32,731 posts)This is news to me but I vaguely recall a text confirmation that I received my direct deposit yesterday so I now I just need to confirm that my zelle transfer made it. Lol

(12,441 posts)They sent us an email yesterday explaining the problem and to their credit had decided to issue an extra payroll deposit for those affected until the matter could be resolved as they expected a delay in the resolution. I usually get the direct deposit on Thursdays and finally received it Friday night. I don't know whether that was the original deposit finally getting through or the correction.
