Can't say if it's a glitch, or just well hidden.
Go to Navigate
Click Latest Discussions
Click "Mark All" say Yes to pop-up
Click "Change to Show All" which is just under the large Forums & Groups header.
Cool eh?

(21,983 posts)Its showing the old forums page from DU3 in an unformatted DU4 layout. Well be removing that. Thanks for the information.

(13,949 posts)It would be handy to have, so that you could find the group you're looking for with your browser's Ctrl - F.

(21,983 posts)Currently theres no single list, there are five categories (plus Help & Search) found in the Navigate menu. For most forums it should be relatively easy to determine the category you need to check to find the forum youre looking for.
Alternatively, if you know which forum youre looking for, you can always open site search by clicking the little magnifying glass icon in the header bar (or go to Help & Search if youre on mobile) and enter the name of the forum (with the word forum after it). It should pop up at or near the top of the results.
A full reorganization of the forums was planned but we decided to hold off, partly due to the amount of work required and partly due to feedback we received during beta testing. We have additional ideas for forum organization/navigation which will build on the new system, but theyll be coming later in a separate update.
I was having a hard time finding the "Animal Rights" forum (group ?). I had looked, poorly, through all the categories, a couple of times. It probably didn't help that I was sorting by name and looking under "A". (It's actual name, as you know, is "Vegetarian, Vegan and Animal Rights" )
I just tried the site search with "animal rights forum" and it popped up on the first hit. Great tip, thank you.
BTW, the first hit said , "This is a group, not a forum". Has the nomenclature changed with DU4?
EarlG
(21,983 posts)Yes, the nomenclature has changed. On DU3 we designated forums as either "Forums" or "Groups" -- "Groups" was the designation we used for forums which were essentially user-created and hosted. There are technical differences between the way forums were managed vs. the way groups were managed, however, major obvious differences between them became narrower and narrower over time until, when we were working on the redesign, it became apparent that we might as well simply call everything "Forums" since that's the most obvious descriptor.
On the surface level, we now separate forums like this:
Main Forums: General Discussion, Latest Breaking News, and The DU Lounge. These are managed by the Main Forum Hosts.
Topic Forums: Every other forum. These are hosted by individuals with an interest in the particular topic (or not hosted at all).
However, in the underlying code, there is still a technical difference between forums and groups, which is why you might sometimes see the "Groups" designation cropping up occasionally. Over time we will go through these as we find them to bring them into line with DU4 standards, but these are really just text/labeling issues -- it's not going to make any difference to the way the forums operate.
There are also a few forums which retain the "Group" title even though they are now officially forums -- for example, the Asian Group, or the Jewish Group. We did not think it was necessary to change these titles.

(31,226 posts)How do like DU so far? I like it an adjusting pretty quickly.

(17,200 posts)I think it's very cool. Still a little slow finding my way around but it won't take long until it's second nature - just like the previous updates.
Very clean, uncluttered layout. I'm really liking the new font and line spacing - great for readability and eye/brain co-ordination.
Hope all is well with you.
