I have a question about Diane Feinstein's seat....

My understanding (I've been a little out of the loop lately) was that Governor Newsom was NOT going to appoint someone who wanted to run for that seat in 2024 because it would put the others running (Schiff, Porter, Lee) at a disadvantage.

Then my sis (who lives in Chicago but it very, very knowledgeable) said that she didn't think that was the case. Then, I read something (I don't remember where) that memntioned Laphonza Butler is contemplating a run.

Can anyone update me on this situation?

Thank you!

was not a declared candidate at the time of being named to fill the seat. His requirement was no declared candidates.

Thank you....

I really, really thought his intention was to appoint someone who did not want the position and would only stay until the 2024 election......

Once the election was in full swing he didn't feel it right to appoint Barbra Lee who is one of the front runners because it would influence the outcome. He appointed Butler to the seat because she is not a front runner but he didn't require any promises that she just be a placeholder and not run in the election as the incumbent.

if they otherwise meet the qualifications. However, since the primary is March 5 she has until early December to get all her paperwork in.
