The Democratic governor has promised to appoint a Black woman. He has also promised to avoid the field of candidates already running for Feinstein’s seat, which was set to expire at the end of next year and includes Rep. Barbara Lee, one of the state’s most prominent Black women currently serving in elected office.

It would be an interim appointment, and not from the announced candidates, so as to not give that person an unfair advantage.

Lee, as the only black female in on the race, took umbrage with an interim appointment, when without that incumbency she comes in third.

It'd be nice if Boxer was chosen given her history and relationship with Feinstein.

At least for the interim period before the next Congress convenes in January 2025.

Personally, I'd appoint Barbara Boxer. Alternatives would be Jackie Speier, although she is a former Representative.

Too important a period of time to appoint someone who doesn't know the Senate or at least Congress.

Karen Bass just got elected as mayor of LA and she is needed there. The only other black woman I can think of is Maxine Waters.

None of the three however will likely be appointed to the interim seat.
