A young Latino guy named Andy Morales has said he will run. He identifies as Gen-Z and talks about issues like healthy care for the folks in his district.

His and McCarthy’s district, which includes Fresno, Tulare and Kern counties, has long been the red bastion of agribusiness giants with familiar names like Gallo, Shaw (of two buck chuck/Charles Shaw fame) as well as lesser known but equally oligarchical names from the oil industries of Kern. The thing is, even though those are counties with significant numbers of significantly wealthy people, they are far outnumbered by the people who work for them. In other words, they are far outnumbered by the people who get screwed by Republicans.

You know what it would take? It would take a well funded, long term approach, and considerable grass roots effort. Because you know why? Lots of his constituents can’t stand him or what he stands for. Even republicans in the disco find him embarrassing (though probably not enough to vote against him, make no mistake).

Like so many other red districts, the Democratic infrastructure has been ignored, underfunded, and under appreciated. There are folks there who want to make it happen, but they need help.
