'...recently, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer relaxed the Senate dress code so that John could wear his famous hoodie in the well of the Senate....no big deal, right?
wrong. the entire wingnut outrage-industrial complex blew a fucking gasket. you would have thought it was the burning of Atlanta and the sacking of Rome all rolled into one and the loudest howls came from the Republican screech-monkeys in the House of Representatives. oh, the decorum, they cried.'
My take: As much as I dig Tiedrich and think Fetterman is awesome, I'm kinda on the side of wearing a jacket on the Senate floor. But, then, I'm an old gal. What do you think?

(29,244 posts)if Kirsten can wear WTF those clothes are that she wears, then John Fetterman can wear a hoodie and shorts.

(17,395 posts)I think no lesser of Fetterman because of his attire. The clothes do not make the man (or woman). Character and values are what matters.

(2,612 posts)Durbin, No. 2 Senate Democrat, disagrees with change to dress code: We need to have standards
Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (Ill.) says he is concerned about a decision to loosen the Senates dress code to allow senators to wear whatever they want on the chamber floor, arguing we need to have standards.
Durbin, the No. 2-ranking Senate Democrat and chairman of the powerful Judiciary Committee, signaled hes not ready to let hoodies, blue jeans or shorts become the norm on the Senate floor, which has been the venue of many important historic moments over the years.
Well, Im concerned about it, Durbin told The Briefing with Steve Scully on SiriusXMs POTUS channel, when asked about the recent change in the rules of decorum.
Durbin acknowledged that changing the Senates dress code would accommodate his colleague, first-term Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.), whos well-known for wearing a hoodie and shorts instead of a business suit like most senators, but suggested the issue is bigger than one senator.

(113,995 posts)That this is taking up time and energy and ink and paper and bytes, with so many serious issues at stake is a joy to the reichwing spin machine.

(58,785 posts)is well along in dangerous decline, this could almost have been designed to underline that "reality" and increase their anxiety. The reaction described was totally predictable.
I checked "none" even though bottom line: It's not the clothes, it's the legislative choices that matter. Fetterman can show up wrapped in a sheet, though I'd strongly prefer he keep it closed.
But also, where's the box for the large range of dress acceptable in many workplaces and restaurants between a jacket and "Fetterman grunge?"
I just wish Schumer hadn't felt a need to make this choice now. 40 million people who're confused about most issues that matter don't need knowledge or thought to react to this, and we want disgusted conservatives to not vote Republican, not cause them to do it anyway.
