Discrimination against older people is a problem in this country. President Biden is healthy and works out every day. he could live to be 95 or 100 easily. Any president could drop dead at any age that's why we have a VP.

(94,973 posts)Voters apply all sorts of standards to their choices of candidates. Age and apparent strength is one of them.
And part of the concern by those who think Biden is too old to carry out his full term is that Harris is not as popular as he is.

(2,188 posts)Are basing it on Biden falling a couple of times. He got his foot caught and fell off of his bike and he tripped over a sandbag. Trump is only 3 years younger and eats junk food and is out of shape and yet a lot less of the voters believe that Trump is too old. There is no video of Trump falling and it being shared all over social media. I fell last year and I'm in my 50s.

(13,591 posts)you mentioned could happen to anyone at any age. My father towards the end of his life (his mid eighties) would fall for no reason. He didnt trip over anything, he would just fall. He fought us on getting a walker, but eventually came around.

its bullshit and its not "most voters"
i think "most voters" arent as stupid and gullible as "some voters".
Hes old. No shit. So is Trump.
If a voter actually has an age problem they shouldnt be voting for either.
Anyway its all bullshit and CNN should be further embarrassed by pushing this shit just like the right wing asshole machine.

(372 posts)So if TFG gets in office Jan of 2025, he will be two years younger than Biden is now
Jan 2027 (halfway through his term) TFG would be same age as Biden is now

Fun bonus for you, the definition of discriminatory via Google. Oddly, it lists age as a factor of such - So, reconcile that however you wish.

(109 posts)You make the age discrimination point beautifully. The point is that age should not be a criteria except on a case by case basis. Age ended my computer coding career. The only shop where I got a job had a mean age of 48. After that job, all the phone interviews went really great, but once they saw my white hair in person, the in person interviews ended in about two minutes.

(7,645 posts)I remember some folks that I didn't much care for personally being stunned a black guy got elected President. That part was fun but then some of those same type people decided they'd make sure nothing like that happened again. But then it did!
Of course, that pissed them off even more and even though the man ran the most perfect, scandal free administration in the history of the United States, they still tried their best to invent something, anything. The worst they could come up with was the absolute horror of him wearing a tan suit...and wearing it well too.

(18,012 posts)I have a colleague in his early 70's with no plans to retire anytime soon since in his words he'd be bored out of his skull. I'm in somewhat the same boat in what would normally be the tail end of my career, but I have no plans to retire in the short to medium term. We still contribute as much as in our prime career years and walk around with institutional knowledge and experience that would be damn hard to replace. Want to know how something actually works? Ask an old guy instead of wasting time figuring it out yourself and suffering through trial and error. I get making room for younger guys coming up, but I've also seen the impact of key players retiring. It's damn tough to immediately replace what they contributed.
Same with government. Biden, Pelosi and others are walking around with incredible amounts of knowledge and experience we'd be hard pressed to replicate in younger members of the party without repeating the same mistakes older guys learned from long ago. If they're still contributing, let them. If not, then it's time for them to move on. If only we had a data port in the back of our heads like The Matrix and could transfer that knowledge. But, alas, we do not.

(6,140 posts)My grandfather worked his huge garden until he was hospitalized with lung cancer. (3 packs a day will do that) He was a hoot and his mind was with it. My great grandparents were all fit and of sound mind until they passed. Age is just a number.
The only reason my 85 year old father became mentally unstable was because the melanomas on his shoulders (caused by working shirtless in the sun) metastasized to his brain.
President Biden shows absolutely no signs or symptoms of diminished capacity. Unlike the orange malignant narcissist a bunch of idiots voted for in 2016. Flabby, out of shape, can't spell, doesn't know how to read or understand the Constitution and definitely does not understand democracy.
President Biden is a good man and he has my 100% support this year and in 2024!

He also developed a type of early onset dementia. By age 48, he had to be institutionalized as he could no longer function and take care of himself.

(4,392 posts)the age issue resonates because Biden does his job quietly. The stutter doesn't help, but they're capitalizing on the fact that most voters sense there's something missing in the current president and they can't put their finger on it. What they're missing is the howling, like one misses the conflict of a bad relationship.
I think age is an issue, it may not be fair but it's a 4-year contract, there hasn't been a VP as popular as the president in my lifetime, and only one or two losing candidates as popular as the heads of their tickets. People vote for president. Biden is clearly not demented, this is a smear campaign from the party that can't win on ideas. But they can win on a disciplined smear (cf. Gore, Kerry, H Clinton).
We had a demented president once. He won re-election by his supporters pumping up perceptions of the condition of the economy. We can re-elect Biden by 14 months of continual talk about his accomplishments.
