I am so heart sick about the news of the blueprint for a 2nd Trump presidency. I don't think he will win, but just the knowledge that these mother-fuckers are planning fascism for their benefit and have been waiting with lust for decades to finally and totally dismantle all obstacles to their wanton greed.
The rich, not all the rich, but the many rapaciously greedy rich power-mongers suck the blood, the minimal wealth and the security that allows a modestly dignified life from the rest of us. All the while destroying our planet, the very air we breathe, the water we drink and the very rain that falls. We are so accustomed to it we don't even see it in its entirety.
The rich in their infinite greed were not satisfied with the presence of a moderately secure middle class and an underclass that serves as an easy target and source of free labor. They won't stop until we are all modern serfs and wage slaves too busy and bone-tired from living paycheck to paycheck and worrying about paying for medical care to get our heads above water enough to get a gulp of air. I won't go overly into detail, but the whole capitalist and corporate system as it is set up perpetuates our present disastrous assault on human and planetary life and health. The corporate set up encourages immorality. I'll sum it up with the saying "Grow or Die".
It is never, and will never be, enough for them. The only answer is lasting and enforced regulations to protect for the rest of us and to protect LIFE ON EARTH and we need to be ever, ever vigilant about protecting those guard rails.
I know this isn't news and is perhaps a rant, but please just reply "I hear you" or "yeah" if you agree. I need the support today. I'm discouraged and its my birthday to boot.

(1,506 posts)damn the consequences for those who come after them.
But the fight to limit the damage they do, to restore/ensure rights, etc. wages on on many fronts.
Try to find some small ways to observe your birthday and enjoy some temporary respite from your well-expressed and potentially overwhelming concerns.
Take care. You are far from alone.

(820 posts)What a shame that we have to subjected to even the possibility of this vile negativity.
We have to keep up the resistance. We have to support one another. We have the good guys on our side. Don't give up the fight.

I believe this to be true:
Martin Luther King, Jr. reminded us that the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.

(9,260 posts)Even if they fhey fail this time, they'll be back again. It can be discouraging. But we have some good things happening also, and right now I feel more optimistic than discouraged.
Take a day off from worry and anxiety. You can pick it up again it tomorrow.
For today, try to enjoy your birthday! Do some thingthing you love doing!
Happy Birthday to you!

(2,829 posts)I agree with everything you said and could supplement pages of my own with yours. I was so down and discouraged last night as I read the news articles here on DU... especially after reading what Abbott is doing at the Texas border... I was tearing myself apart thinking how could one intervene to wake up those still sleeping in this country. Surely there are more in the "not in my name" camp than it appears! It can be so disheartening. I truly didn't feel like I had any place in this country any longer.
But hang in there. Things are beginning to turn, and although at this point I believe *rump is the least of our problems, I believe that we will right the ship of state. I just don't think I'll still be alive to see it. I'm too old, and the journey will be a long one. But it will right itself, and evil will not triumph over good.
Happy Birthday. Give yourself permission to be frivolous for the day, even if you can't find "happy"...

Make a wish and blow out those candles. Their Plan A didn't work very well for us; Plan B neither. So...At my age, I'll probably wind up in their Plan C which was and continues to be terrifying but so necessary...Remember that whatever their strategy, it will destroy at least half of them each round as well.
Me, I got good news today. The CEO of a past mortgage holding company that walked away from the bait and switch subprime bundles met the Grim Reaper just after global heat came into its hottest days...so hell won't be as shocking to him. I lived longer...hehehe! His sole male heir apparent announced it! Face-off karma for him is coming. That's being kind, isn't it?

(15,243 posts)This is in some ways a pervasive character building exercise. Those who surround that still support this walking obscenity and his many imitators should be avoided especially when they self identify. When they claim I like Trump but he has too much baggage they should shunned the same as someone who self identifies as a Trump supporter. When asked I make clear my views on Donald Trump no one should hide their views on Fascism and Authoritarians.

This really sucks, but try to have as happy a birthday as possible.

(11,610 posts)It seems the pendulum will start swinging the other way. The hard-right push everywhere has made lives miserable all over the planet, but it seems to me the tide is turning. It is hard to ignore the consequences and we have young people that don't want to grow up in a miserable world where only the greedy hoarding all the proceeds of production are able to afford food and shelter. Ditto for most from all ages as well. The climate crisis can no longer be swept under the rug, either.
There are still sane, reasonable people. Stop fearing the others and let's lift up the ones that deserve our time and attention.

(32,745 posts)When it comes down to the general election next year, and if Biden and Chump are the candidates - Biden will win by a landslide. Americans (including the majority of Repukes) do not want Chump back in the White House. They'll either vote for Biden or they'll stay home and not vote at all.
Our Constitution will prevail and Joe Biden will be re-elected.

(1 post)I think a lot of us are exactly where you are in our thoughts and mood........I liken it to the grieving process. We are grieving for the Country we thought all of us were working toward a "more perfect Union", when in reality only a slim majority actually believe in that concept, while the rest are either under the spell of an evil man supported by a greedy political party or are just plain not interested in anything other than power and money. So sorry...I know this isn't an encouraging message, but I do believe we cannot give up fighting for what we believe in.....that "more perfect Union", because while difficult to do, it could still be attainable.

(36,132 posts)Yes, we will always have to fight the good fight until we really win enough in Congress to end Citizens United, disallow foreign nationals voting, expand the SCOTUS, PASS THE ERA amendment, get Medicare for All, and get Ukraine into NATO.
We're in this for the long haul because that's how democracy works against fascist capitalist forces. But it's a basic principle that self-government is the work of the governed.
You fight the good fight! So take a break. Enjoy your life right now.

(1,338 posts)Happy birthday, and know that even in the event those f*ers pushing that crap win office one day, they cant just unilaterally change our federal government with a wave of the hand. Congress and the courts will have a say, and representatives and justices have sworn oaths to protect and defend our constitution. Many will honor their oaths.

(17,316 posts)Last week I started talking about how Fascism is taking over the R party to those willing to listen.
The New York Times front page article about what tfg and his buddies wanting to concentrate all
power in his hands if if wins 2024 was a big help.
We should challenge everyone who cares about Democracy to read it.
