Fri Jun 30, 2023, 05:16 PM
Jun 2023

FDR/LBJ's classic liberal Democratic policies became "democratic socialism" -- people were suddenly insisting they were FDR Democrats and democratic socialists. They were told the Democratic Party shifted Right for the last 40 years, same neoliberal economic policies as Republicans, corrupt and immoral, worse than Republicans because they only pretended to care about working/middle classes and fooled people into voting for them with identity politics. If you're a politician known for decades as a socialist and want to run as a Democrat, what do you do? Pretend the true roots of the Democratic Party are actually socialist! Your supporters believe you. Actual socialists are like, What? No!

A supposedly Left media based on this toxic wrong worldview, what a gift to Russian propagandists whose goal was to rile up hate and disgust for the Democratic Party. I still can't get over how many people fell for it. People I knew parroting Russian trolls like they were brainwashed. But I guess Americans were primed already with conspiracy theory culture.

I've yet to meet or hear a reputable statement of fact wherein a Sanders supporter ever even considered anything but voting Democratic in 2016. Rumor and innuendo are no replacements for truth. I can understand where it's very possible that the only Democratic POV one might encounter is online where it's a 50% chance that it's a clickbait scheme to plant doubt and confuse facts. The entire deep south is like that. Got to be careful about sources though or the next thing from the rumor mill will be stupid lies of Democrats refusing to vote because Biden's "too old".

2016 happened because there were just too many stupid Republican voters who actually thought Trump was a real person.

for people to think it was worthwhile to use their votes to make a personal statement of some sort, like writing in their cat's name. We're not hearing that now.

Since then a lot of people have learned the two choices weren't really "practically the same" at all, but incredibly different, and the reality that for the foreseeable future the only choices will be EITHER Democrats or Republicans.

That's progress, and more people have been joining the struggle to contain and reverse what 2016 unleashed.

That said, speaking of Hillary, don't read her platform in retrospect if you don't want to feel sick at what we lost. Establishing a universal basic income wasn't on it for the first term because she couldn't make it work with so many other big commitments, but she believed it was necessary and doable and wanted to make it happen.

This attitude that the candidate has to "earn my vote" is nonsense. We have political parties. Political power in the United States is exerted through two parties. I can remember being silenced here by members who alerted on my posts. There were mass alerts on anyone who supported Hillary too vigorously, both when she ran against Obama in the primary, and later, when she was the nominee.

I know many people put me on ignore. They mocked Hillary by being disdainful and saying things like, "What do you mean it is 'her turn?' I don't recall ever saying that!

The rust belt? Bluer than blue Illinois is in the rust belt. I have worked hard in a red part of Illinois for my entire life. And look at Michigan's recent turn away from the dark side. Did any left-leaners help with that?

I agree that it is about GOTV and not alienating non-leftist Democrats. Also, I have found that some so-called left-leaners don't know what they are talking about. Try running a conversation with them and you will find they are full of nothing but empty slogans.

I have encountered a lot of left-leaning Democrats since TFG's election win. They call themselves progressives. They have never knocked on a door in their life. It’s just that the unnecessary deaths weren’t immediate, and, are still occurring.

70. Should have listened, but too many Democrats protested because their guy lost in primaries.

Ultimately, that was the difference. Sure Comey, trump lies, Russia, etc., had something to do with it, but we could have countered all that had it not been for the "my guy lost, so screw you, I'm not voting for Clinton" contingent.

I distinctly remember numerous people in the mainstream media, ostensibly on "the left" that stated openly if Bernie won they'd vote the other way or wouldn't vote.

On multiple news networks. Unchallenged.

Let's all pray that our candidates learn from previous mistakes.

saying the country needed more love and kindness as First Lady to a grotesque caricature of corrupt evil warmonger anti-universal health care elitist when running for president in 2016. All the while she's the same Midwestern Methodist liberal do-gooder who's spent her entire career getting progressive things done.

Thank you for all you've done, Hillary.

"Trying to coast in on the women's vote alone" -- how? She never did that.

Just saying there were MANY brave Americans who warned us. Case being 6 brave Dems who introduced brilliant articles of impeachment on Nov 15 2017! Back when Rs in power were literally brushing up their resumes! Back when the devil's approvals were at their lowest.

This is super serious business now ,beyond imaginable.

But I remember that very funny, and ultimately very poignant SNL Hillary skit with the woman "Elector".

Important and incredibly interesting and I'll NEVER stop studying or discussing it. Latest personal insult directed at me was that it was my "old bog standard target of ire." But I'm right, dear, my information is correct.

And that is something that is very real and is playing out right before us as expected.

As opposed to those who were so concerned about people coming to see a popular former First Lady give a speech. And then the free stuff. None of it real, just grandstanding, and look what was thrown away. It’s truly shocking. Two generations of work gone like a fart in the wind.
