What in the world. I have seen several news outlets with articles about this. This is ludicrous. The news outlets need to be yelling about nuclear secrets and the real possibility trump sold those secrets to our enemies. If it is Saudi arabia then holler about giving our secrets to terrorists supporters and outright murderers of American reporter Jamal Khashoggi.
Trump would never qualify for a security clearance. His debts, the bankruptcies, the E Jean Carroll ruling all make him compromised. There would be no way possible with what he is being indicted should he be allowed near any sensitive classified material.
The news needs to shouting about the fact is unqualified to be president not well anyone who is natural born citizen, 35 years old and a resident of the US fir 14 years.

(3,439 posts)..indicted for crimes committed while in office and prior -- grant it a sitting corrupt criminal president will be distracted from his duties as president of U.S. which preise for said rule/policy-- well regardless of party affiliation so be it-- anyone else would not be able to skirt the law..perhaps may lose their job eg even if president if found guilty.

..indicted for crimes he/she commits while in office and or those crimes committed prior. Jeez, just change the fucking rule and I'll bet a dollar that El corrupt criminale, odious traitor, accused sex abuser, given that he'd have ZERO protection, something had during his first term will quit the presidential race-- albiet he'll grift from his maga voters every last penny they have for as long as he can. Haven't heard any former, current DOJ prosecutor, lawyer, Dem politician or pundit suggest changing DOJ policy-- why not? We often hear, Congress must pass a law, a constitutional amendment is needed to effect change--in this case and with a stroke of a pen, from whom-- U.S. Attorney General, M.Garland-- it can be undone? Here's DOJ rule/policy followed by excerpt depicting historical background on said:
Headnotes
The indictment or criminal prosecution of a sitting President would unconstitutionally undermine the capacity of the executive branch to perform its constitutionally assigned functions.

In 1973, in the midst of the Watergate scandal engulfing President Richard Nixon, the Justice Departments Office of Legal Counsel adopted in an internal memo the position that a sitting president cannot be indicted. Nixon resigned in 1974, with the House of Representatives moving toward impeaching him.
The spectacle of an indicted president still trying to serve as Chief Executive boggles the imagination, the memo stated.
The department reaffirmed the policy in a 2000 memo, saying court decisions in the intervening years had not changed its conclusion that a sitting president is constitutionally immune from indictment and criminal prosecution. It concluded that criminal charges against a president would violate the constitutional separation of powers delineating the authority of the executive, legislative and judicial branches of the U.S. government.

(883 posts)Just like anyone else in this country. No one above the law. This is all from Nixon not being punished. Just a thought could trump just pardon himself. Obviously we need laws put in place.

(3,439 posts)..ok not meant to protect the likes of #45, yet it's premise is: how can one govern the Nation and be indicted at the same time..arrested, jailed.
God forbid, how crazy would that be, if we allowed such corruption while a sitting president unsighted an attack on capitol; planned, organized, executed by ordering people to do his bidding so he could remain in office, overthrow our democracy. I say if you do the crime, you do the time regardless of party affiliation.
Said DOJ rule/policy is on paper perhaps sensible, yet in reality gives permission for bad actors/corrupt criminals like #45 to do harm m to our country, allies, military and Intel personnel -- he, they [ future presidents] view as a get out of jail free, a pass to continue with criminal behavior and maybe one day-- they'll suffer the consequences, justice will prevail. It's been tested, does not deter behavior, rather encourages Two yrs later and we're still dealing with a fucking criminal. I envy Peru in our it handled coup d'etat by it's sitting president, Pedro Castillo-- on the day he attempted to take over as dictator por vida ..Congress said not on their watch..on that same day, had him arrested, jailed and installed VP as president. His crime? Rebellion against the State! I'm ..wtf! Imo, our laws do not deal with a corrupt criminal president..different set is needed bc this is not an average citizen, spy, like Rosenberg's who were executed for crimes against America.. the president of the United States rebelled against its own govt, laws-- he #45 should have been arrested, jailed and sent to Guantanamo to await his trial..Mike Pence appointed VP until Jan 20, hand reins over to Biden. Had policy been in place when Nixon was president, he would have continued, probably ran a second term..so in retrospect -- not having policy was a deterrent bc he resigned. Yes, agreed bc Nixon should have been indicted, arrested jailed-- as #45 on J6 now he's allowed to run for presidency again-- fucking unbelievable!

(21,731 posts)That was one reason the prosecutors wanted him out of the VP office before they went after Nixon and if they hadn't gotten Agnew out, he would have been President possibly from Jail. That was on Rachel last night.

(15,160 posts)He will have some form of supervised detainment, but likely closer to home confinement than a jail cell.
I just don't see him in even a low security clubhouse prison.
