This whole narrative of white people losing power and white people mourning makes me nervous

Firstly, it's an inaccurate portrayal especially of white men, since they are not really losing power at all. Look at upper management, prestigious careers in private industry and government, salaries etc and by all metrics white men still have substantial power.

The issue of losing power as a group is psychologically threatening to a lot of people and so this narrative makes me a bit uncomfortable. The rise in hate groups since Obama has taken power has been astronomical and in many ways, I fear for minorities, women and LGBT people because of this narrative of loss.

I don't mean to be a negative nelly or insinuate that most white men are particularly bothered by this narrative, I just fear for the ones that do find this very meaningful. I wish there was a less threatening way of celebrating increasing diversity, instead of framing this as a loss of power for white men.

Anyway, this is my two cents. I am off to finish my schoolwork now

These particular people are so self absorbed that ANYTHING that happens is ALL ABOUT THEM.

If other people win an election, it's about their own LOSS.

Most whites are less bothered with competing fairly with all people based on talent vs becoming like those selfish, warped people. The narcissistic personality wants to win so much that they will twist and subvert on any and every level until even when they win they lose.

....just know that progressive white people do not worry about "losing power." Those who aren't progressive - well, there's probably nothing you can do to reframe the wave of demographic changes are beginning to affect the political landscape. Perhaps you could say that "progressives won," so that the issue of race is marginalized.

The non-progressives are the ones excluding people by their regressive politics and policies, though, not you.

...because it fits in with all the other "find an enemy" rhetoric right wing pols have used for decades.

Now it's their fellow citizens who are framed as "the enemy."

The ridiculous thing about this is the projection that, by 2050, iirc, there will still be a 47% white population. Various other groups make up the other %s and not one of them hits 30%.

It seems that the people going on about this are trying to appeal to groups that don't have much interaction with a broad variety of people.

So, the real reason this rhetoric bothers me is that it sounds too close to the sort of fear-mongering you hear from white power hate groups, aka America's nazis.

I am a white woman, and I grew up on the west coast, Bay Area.I have a pretty liberal background, and the denial that persists in our country about white men is crazy making. I come at this perspective from being a survivor, and studying the statistics of who makes up the majority of child molesters, rapists, mass murderers, and perpetrators of domestic killings, I see that they are mostly white men. If this was any other race, we would be having a discussion as to what to do. We'd have studies and theories, ad nauseum. I realize this is off topic to what you were referring to, but another side of the coin. It reminds me of the repubs looking out for voter fraud! We can't have a conversation about what really drives this white male victim mentality, IMHO.
And it's all about fear. And a sense of entitlement. I can't even relate. Isn't it interesting that they are worried about their place and don't bother to concern themselves with the plight of others. A reality check is in order.
This narrative has to be addressed, as does the problem with white men and white male violence.

the desire for silence on these issues is nothing other than ploys to avoid truths and reality. There is nothing wrong with shared power. The actual loss of power will without a doubt in the long run help the "white race". It's not just about males. It's about women too. I know just as many white women racists as men. That being said our society as a whole needs psychological counseling. It's not that other races haven't committed crimes against humanity. It's here in America the "white race has committed the majority of those crimes. I guess some do not realize the depths of racism within the American "white race". Yes others have racism too and the question of how much is a guess. The important difference is they haven't had the power to oppress. It scares me that some do want to not hear it, discuss it and heal others. It can't be done being silent.

that white men are the majority of those things because they're the majority race in this country? (Around 72%) I'd love to see the evidence that they commit all those at a higher rate by population than any other race.

And just to head it off, no, I'm not a white man.
