I grew up in Niagara Falls, Ontario. There's a huge hydroelectric power station. There's powerlines and transformers and shit all over the place. The one time there was an "attack" something broke and caused a huge power outage but it was fixed in a couple of hours. The only outcome was a tiny blip in the birth rate 9 months later.

I now live in Alberta. There's pipelines and refineries everywhere. I'm looking at one right now. The only incidents I can remember are vandals taking potshots at rural pipelines but the leak is discovered almost immediately and it's cleaned up in a couple of days.

We have a Native population who gets understandably upset over some issues but their big thing is blockades that causes a certain amount of havoc but they're reasonable about it and let emergency vehicles through but they sit there playing drums and the RCMP sits there looking bored and the politicians sort it out and everybody goes home.

which makes no sense as weapons were not really accurate then and they acknowledge it is pre-Hitler but there is some romanticized notion that the country needs a reset to that decade span and they are just hurrying it along.

like it did our parents. In fact, all the childhood diseases and us not getting them is why mothers ran to the doctor to get their kid vaccinated.

DPT is given every 10 years; TdPT is given to adults every 10 years. Mine is due this year. Every adult should have one.

When I was in high school and the library still had old novels, there would be descriptions of different childhood disease epidemics like diphtheria and it scare the crap out of me. Reading what people went through and died from and the family members left behind made me a believer for me and my son to get the vaccinations. Never a question about it at all...

I asked my mom wasn't she scared to have kids before the polio vaccine came out. She said, well, we never allowed y'all to go swimming anywhere. Polio seems to be spread by water (or so the prevailing thought at the time; I still don't know how and where is comes from.)

It explains a lot as to why my grandmother said I wasn't allowed to sit on a commode seat when I was a kid and she was extremely serious about that. In fact, we basically pulled over on a wide part of highways to potty. Bathrooms were a no-no. Besides, we couldn't beg our parents/grandparents for a candy bar if we pulled into a gas station . Back then they were decrepit and nasty anyway.

Back then, children's health was paid more attention to than women's, never thinking of what would happen to the kids if the mom died.
