No wonder the republicans think an education is indoctrination. It is exactly what they are doing. Home schooling has been used to that end. Their version of what passes for science, social studies and history is the equivalent of uneducated. There needs to be oversight by the school systems for home schooling.

2. I totally agree. When teachers have to show competency and be licensed and work to teach

minimal standards--yet home-schooled kids are at the mercy of their sometimes (perhaps often?) highly under-educated parents, I think we, as a society, are engaging in active discrimination towards those kids and limiting their future. I do know some parents who are exceptions to this--largely home-schooling their kids because of developmental disabilities, but they are the exceptions.

3. I was homeschooled home from 7th to 11th

Yeah I quit and got my GED but I learned much more about history, writing, math and other essentials that are needed.

5. My sister

tried home schooling for one semester for her youngest daughter, but the daughter didn’t like it. She missed her friends at school. She is now a teacher at a charter or private school (not sure which) in Modesto,CA.

7. Even without the Nazi crap homeschooling is indoctrination

Two of the biggest players in the homeschool market are Abeka, formerly A Beka Book, and BJU Press.

Abeka was founded by one of the founders of Pensacola Christian College, which we've discussed frequently here.
BJU stands for Bob Jones University, another infamous right-wing madrassa.

With VERY few exceptions the primary goal of homeschooling is Christian indoctrination.

True story: When I was stationed in Germany one of the military communities in West Germany had A LOT of families homeschooling because they didn't trust the government. (This is kind of a strange sentiment when you work for the government, but anyway.) The Community Commander wanted to be sure that the homeschool kids were being properly educated, so he had them all go to the Department of Defense Dependent School and take a standardized test. ALL of them failed it, so the colonel said "all right, no more homeschooling. Put your kids in school or we'll do an Early Return of Dependents on your family." (Early Return of Dependents is where they ship your spouse and kids back to the US from overseas but keep you in place.) The fucking Christian nutballs appealed to the US Army Europe Commander - a four-star general - and not only got permission to keep not teaching their kids anything, they got the community commander fired for religious discrimination. The most powerful organization on any military base is the wives' club.
