The older I get, the more it matters that I can sleep and not obsess on the day's nightmares.

But, that most certainly does not lessen my outrage at what happened.

I agree, it sounded horrific. Although the clip wasn't long, I wish radio stations wouldn't spring them on us like that. I couldn't make it to the radio to turn it off and had to sit down for a few minutes after hearing it. Had I been driving, I'd have needed to pull over for a while and compose myself.

If you've witnessed it in person. My anxiety has been kind of high, don't know why I have blood pressure of a 30yo.

So it looks like I'll be staying away from the news for quite a while. Good thing I've plenty of movies to watch.

NPR played a sound clip this morning - good thing I've got plenty of CDs to listen to.

I generally try to give police the benefit of the doubt and recognize that sometimes use of force, including lethal force, is justified and necessary. It's simply a reality of law enforcement. It's right there on the label. I've also worked with cops, so my perspective is a little different because of that.

This was by no means justified or necessary. They screwed up from the moment the interaction started in just about every way that matters, right down to their tactics. Then they got angry because one of them was a dumbshit and deployed pepper spray and it got all over everyone. When they caught up to Mr. Nichols again, they were mad and decided to punish him, and punish him they did.

They deserve the charges they got, and they deserve the prison sentences they're going to get. I cannot see how any jury could vote to acquit them. Their lawyers will literally be defending the indefensible.

The video is basically a police snuff film. More horrific than Rodney King and George Floyd. The cops involved deserve to go to prison.

I refuse to normalize this shit. I need continual reality checks. I need to be continually outraged at the outrageous. I am pushing 80 and it is easy to drift off into nothingness. Watching this video does not allow this. I kept yelling at the TV screen "stop it" "stop it" "stop it" "what is fucking wrong with you?" I owe it to this young man and to all that came before him to forever stay involved fighting such evil.

our normally hard-wired aversion in the face of extreme or shocking violence etc.

Showing this stuff has a purpose and it isn't about informing the public.

The purpose is the destabilization of society norms, which the media is the ultimate handmaiden, and to which they capitalize on greatly.

So in other words, watching has the opposite effect, and it only profits the scumbag bastards who served it to you, big media.
