Democrats shouldn't have nayed the adjournment call.

Should have let McCarthy and the Republicans get bad press all weekend…..because of the nay vote and then the subsequent roll call vote, it gave republicans time to talk and convince the holdouts to vote present.

Media would paint them as being obstructionist (yes, absurd I know) for delaying the inevitable especially after 4 days.

I am not talking about the vote, I am talking about before that when it was just a call of the yays and nays. They were the ones being loud and saying “Nay”….which then forced the republicans to asks for a vote count, without the vote count the clerk would have gaveled that the yays had it and the proceeding would have been adjourned. The vote count allowed the republicans to huddle and talk.

why wouldn't there have been a request from their side for a roll call vote, if for no other reason than to buy time to figure out what they wanted to do?

Without that waiting around, which gave them time to huddle and talk, there would have been an adjournment.

I am talking about the voice vote before that. The Democrats were the ones being loud yelling “Nay!”….at that point the republicans wanted to adjourn and were saying “Yay!”….then the clerk said the Nays had it and was about to gavel for another Speaker vote, but the Republicans stood up and wanted a Roll Call vote because at that point they wanted to adjourn. If they democrats up to that point weren’t yelling “Nay!” then the clerk would have gaveled that they Yays had it and it would have been adjourned until Monday…..During the Roll call vote (which wouldn’t have happened without the Democrats yelling Nay), the republicans were content with voting Yay, but the waiting around gave them time to talk and come up with an agreement, which then led them to vote Nay.
