and he's always wanted it, but really he's not well liked by anyone in the GOP.

The victory in this for us will be that point when someone has to come to Democrats to get enough votes to win, which means they'll have to negotiate away all of the rabid MAGAT trash and agree to be legislators instead of agents of vengeance for the orange headed buffoon.

7. Dems will not vote a Repub Speaker unless it looks like one of the extremists will win.

There is absolutely nothing to be gained for Dems to vote for a Republican Speaker. They won't receive any committee chairs or majorities. They won't receive votes on any legislation they want to pass. They will receive nothing in exchange for their votes. An ineffectual Republican Speaker who needs Dem votes to pass budget bills and keep the government running is far better than a MAGAT Speaker but that's about it. It's still not enough for Dems to vote for a Repub unless that MAGAT could win. Dems should find or persuade 6 Republicans to back Jeffries. Otherwise, they should simply watch things play out and maybe block someone like Jordan or Gaetz from becoming Speaker.

12. Jeffries winning is not as far-fetched as you think.

By no means is it likely or even close to likely. However, I'd say he has a 25% chance and that's only because there are enough moderate/sane Republicans and Republicans who represent solid Biden voting districts that their concern for the country or their jobs will make them compromise. If a MAGAT stands a chance to become Speaker, that will make their lives and political futures a total nightmare. Those Repubs could tire of the circus and visit reality for a short period of time and vote for Jeffries. Again, I don't think it's likely but almost nothing would surprise me if Republicans become desperate or angry in the days ahead.

15. It's impossible

Even a moderate Republican would have to be an idiot to vote for him. He's not a compromise candidate, nor is he a Manchin Democrat. He's quite liberal, and everything that every Republican opposes.

If the situation were reversed, no moderate Democrat would would for McCarthy, nor should they. The only Democrat with a chance is that anti-abortion one from Texas.

A bunch of republicans would vote for a Democratic leader and the republicans would get the chairmanships. I doubt that can reasonably happen in the US congress without a republican party revolt.

Not only that, members of The Squad will never vote for a Republican.

It's far more likely 10 or fewer Repubs join Dems to elect Jeffries knowing that Repubs still have the votes to pass or kill any legislation brought to the floor. It is far less likely 212 Dems vote for a Repub speaker when Dems receive absolutely nothing in the return. At least with Jeffries as Speaker, they could determine what legislation is up to a vote even if they do not control the outcome.

As stated above, I think this only has a 25% chance of happening meaning that Repubs are still the overwhelming favorite to hold the Speaker position. It is unlikely Jeffries is selected but it is not certainly not impossible.

If 202+ Democrats vote for him, all it would take would be 20 or less Republicans. I still don't think this is possible, but I like the compromise.

0 Republicans will ever join Jeffries, nor should they. What's in it for them? Nothing. Jeffries is a liberal Democrat who won't compromise to Republicans. He's poison to every Republican, even the good ones. With Cuellar, it's different.

I'm serious. She could get every Democratic vote, if Democrats will consider the fact that it's inevitably going to be a Republican and she is preferable to any other Republican, and then she'd only have to pick up six Republicans to get to 218. I know, she's a right-wing Republican, but unlike almost every other right-wing Republican, she actually does possess some honor, some decency, some sanity. Are there six Republicans out of 222 in the U.S. House who also possess those attributes?
