General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThis is exactly why a sitting President should be able to be charged criminally,
And a former President shouldn't get special treatment, and their crimes excused away because of their past position. The rule of law being applied differently for the rich and powerful, and politicians weakens our Democracy, and our country. Just look at the rise of corruption in our government going on , with little if any real consequences. It also makes the American people lose faith in their government.
Because TFG isn't in jail right now, and wasn't indicted and put behind bars earlier exposes a huge failure of our DOJ, and intel departments, and members in Congress who are complicit with TFG and others. Talk of lesser or no charges against him because of his past position is a recipe for failure keeping our Democracy , and having a real rule of law applied the same for everyone.
Very disappointed with results taking so long, especially with Jan 6th, and our top secrets mar lago situation going on still, and election fraud that got TFG into office with Putin's help. People in our government should be held to a higher bar criminally, not a lower one. There needs to be a complete roundup of the criminals in our government , and department heads rolled to clean it up, and asap. Then we need to know the whole truth about it all.

(5,436 posts)there needs oi be some kind of review of the pardon process as well. and in personal lawsuits the president needs his own lawyers, not the doj.

(11,885 posts)We keep being led to believe our rule of law is equal when it isn't, and the truth is hidden from the American people to protect politicians , and their future. We have to end corruption, and dark money, or we will some day see a President shoot someone on 5th avenue and get away with it. Not far from it with what TFG has done.

(9,998 posts)I either will learn to accept the way things are, or move to another country that at least attempts to hold powerful criminals accountable.

I doubt he killed her for a tax break. That was just a bonus for her death, and she probably approved.

(63,224 posts)And tax the rest of that miserable fucking property.
Hell, seize it via asset forfeiture; that's the go-to policy when a low income brown person is pulled over, after all.

Some of us still give a damn about this country and democracy. We are willing to fight for it instead of whining.

(1,642 posts)...is based on the president not being able to perform his duties as president while under investigation.
Which is bullshit when you start reading the DAMN CONSTITUTION!
When a president is unable to perform the duties of the office, then the country ceases to exist. Just Kiddin'.
It's called a Vice President. And if that bozo doesn't work out will there is an entire procedure and chain of command that can be used.
This rule/advice must be eliminated.
Some will argue that Impeachment is the manner to remove a sitting president - and sure I agree. UNLESS the person in question actually breaks the law and/or puts the country in danger.
"Sorry Mr. President, but the Crime of treason will have to wait, we are still picking up the pieces from that last thermonuclear strike in Kansas. Grain, Beef and other stocks are now permanently irradiated and Europe is refusing to sell us any stocks.
When we get a "fallout clear" signal here in DC, we will transfer to the capital hill for a few months of hearings. This may be delayed for a while as we're still heavily engaged in holding the line against the Chinese Expeditionary Forces forming a beachhead in San Francisco..
CSPAN will be covering the hearings in their entirety in-between the nationwide Civil Defense Broadcast.
What's that again, Mr President?
How will it affect your ratings?
OK, Mr. President, I resign. That was the straw that broke the camel's back!"

Mueller was afraid to challenge the memo of not being able to indict a sitting president because he probably would have lost the argument in our fascist Supreme Court.
Nothing has changed even now, knowing our former president most likely got our foreign agents killed.
DOJ rarely releases a search warrant affidavit, but it did for Trump.
This request for a special master is just what Trump wants so he bypasses the judge who was involved in the stolen documents case and just picks a more favorable judge who will help him delay things even more.
I have been posting that a Trump trial, if it were to ever occur, will not happen until at least 2025. I may have underestimated my timeline.

(129 posts)I was totally shocked when Mueller said he could not indict a "sitting president."
I thought WHAT!!? What the hell kind of a Democracy is this? Is he a king?
I was in the hospital recovering from open heart surgery when I saw this and the arrest of Roger Stone et al. I had my eyes glued to MSNBC for the entire five weeks there. I almost forgot about my condition. Once I got out and finished rehab, I was fatigued with the idea that no matter how much was discovered, it never seemed to be getting to Trump and the statement "can I pardon myself?"
His supporters never seemed to catch on to the simple idea that if one wants to pardon themselves, it is an admission of guilt.
The fact is, to his supporters, he IS king.

(4,846 posts)If a democrat were to plead the fifth (like TFG did for what 400+ times?) or to get a pardon, they would not shut up about the admission of guilt part. The reason they "excuse" TFG is because they buy in the whole "the left is unreasonably targeting TFG and everything is fake." TFG is simply taking the fifth or pardon because of an unfair and unreasonable circumstance.
This is why they are a cult and that no matter what damning evidence come out about TFG, they would not believe any of it. But if a democrat did any of it, it's time to hang that person or lock him/her up.

(10,130 posts)Trump's enablers are dismantling the election apparatus
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/state-legislatures-election-interference/
This year legislatures in 33 states most of which are controlled by Republicans have introduced 244 bills that would give the partisan legislature or legislatively appointed officials more sway over election operations than civilian appointees, or create undue burdens for nonpartisan election officials. Twenty-four of those bills became law, according to the report from the States United Democracy Center and Protect Democracy, nonpartisan organizations that aim to defend democratic elections.
Some of the proposed laws were introduced by prominent election deniers who will be on the ballot this November, as candidates for office as their state's top election official.

(63,224 posts)Well, this is The System's chance to justify my faith.
Trump is clearly guilty; every sane person who's followed the situation knows this. There is literally no good reason not to indict him and, frankly, to jail him pending trial.
And here's my preemptive IDGAF to the cheerleaders who will jump up to scold me once again for my lack of faith.
