General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsA few months ago, I recall DU announcing to be aware of upcoming President Biden bashing.
It's happening here now.
And there doesn't seem to be any stopping it.
Today I was shocked at some of the obvious posts and comments that were taking shots at President Biden in an obvious rightwing nut job effort to make him look weaksetting up a defeat in the midterms.
FaceBook is filled with it now. Twitter is filled with. And now DU is filled with it.
I guess a lot of people forgot about tfg's years. To me, it was like living in a horror Twilight Zone episodeand I will NEVER forget.
The gop is trying to make President Biden look bad, in the same way they did with President Carter.
Who of you out there, would rather have Biden or Carter than tfg or DeSantis?
Wake the fuck up! (I'm not speaking to the idiot trump supporters who are posting here temporarilythey are in a forever nightmare-dream).

(25,618 posts)Weeping about Daddy promising the nice things, Daddy ignoring them. He is old! Daddy bad. Being offended at being urged to vote. Then claiming no no no, it's totally constructive criticism, I swear! Like constantly accusing Democrats of being "corporate Dems" and corrupt without the slightest evidence.

(1,096 posts)But I did vote for him in the presidential election, and i have been encouraged by the way he has handled the many! crises during his presidency. A lesser statesman would surely have faltered. Many times. If he chooses to run again, I expect that I would vote for him aqain - most certainly against any repub opponent.

(1,654 posts)Well, Good Gravy! Get out there and work to vote who you want in, but don't tear down someone doing their job a hell of a lot better than TFG and for that matter any Republican I can think of. You want someone better - be a better citizen. If you make Biden look weaker you diminish all Democrats because for better or for worse, he's our standard bearer.

Biden didn't cause the inflation we are facing. Look to ExxonMobile and the other oil monsters. If every product gets moved by petroleum, record profits in the petroleum industry means artificially higher prices for everything.
Do any of the pundits notice the inflation going on elsewhere around the world?

(1,962 posts)This isn't something I speak up about much here, because I know I'm further to the left than a lot of people here... most people here?... everyone here? I mean, hell, I make Bernie look like a centrist. https://www.politicalcompass.org/chart?ec=-7.13&soc=-7.69
I'll admit, going into 2020, Biden was not initially my guy. I started with Elizabeth Warren. Switched to Bernie when she dropped out. Switched to Biden when, well, it was obvious Biden was the nominee. Biden vs Drumpf? I'd vote for Biden 1,000,000 times out of a 1,000,000, no question. That despite the fact he was my third choice for the 2020 nomination. And, sure, leading up to November 2020, I thought "Couldn't it be Elizabeth? Couldn't it be Bernie?"
Well, Biden won, of course. And here it is, July of 2022. And right now, I have only two "regrets" when it comes to having Joe Biden as president:
1. Kyrsten Sinema throwing banana peels in front of Joe Biden.
2. Joe Manchin throwing banana peels in front of Joe Biden.
I cannot claim I agree 100% with President Biden. But guess what? I don't agree with 100% with my dad. I don't agree 100% with my best friends. I didn't agree with 100% with my late girlfriend. When it comes to the major shit, though, I fully agree with Joe Biden, and absolutely feel he is doing everything he can to fight for those things.
All my life, the two things that have mattered to me the most in a presidential candidate have been "do they have a good heart?" and "do they wholeheartedly believe in human rights and equality?" After the 4 year nightmare of having no president, that became even more important to me.
Meanwhile, going back to those two questions... Over the last 18 months, President Biden has routinely answered those questions loudly and clearly: Yes. And yes.
I figure once you put a good person with a good heart in the White House, the rest of the shit can work itself out. Budgets will work themselves out. Figuring out how to fund this or that program will figure itself out. We'll figure out how much to give to NASA or the military or whatever. But the most important thing is having a leader who makes it clear they stand with everyone, stand for everyone, that human rights and equality are for everyone, and that they have the best intentions at heart.
Joe Biden absolutely has fought for us. He has done everything one person can do to undo the damage of the last 4 years. I have no doubt that if given a House and Senate that will fight for him instead of with him, he could do so much more.
So, instead of bashing Biden, or calling him out. It's time for us to go to the polls and help him keep the House, and give him a Senate where Sinema and Manchin can no longer derail his work.
We have a good man in the White House. And one who can do fucking amazing things if everyone would just let him.
And once again, this is a member of DU's far-left saying this. I absolutely believe that, and stand with President Biden. Why? Because he's left no doubt that he stands with me.

(1,962 posts)Thank you everyone for your kind words. Perhaps one day soon I will make it an OP. In the meantime, though, I did want to speak up here to show that at least one member of the far-left wing of the Democratic party absolutely and without question supports our president.

(86,780 posts)I don't know if I'm far left but I agree with what you are saying here. There is no rational argument for not supporting the current president and his agenda, it is the very least that can be done to avoid extinction for chrissakes.

(1,962 posts)The Democratic party right now is probably the only thing holding off blatant hostility and hatred from the QOP, along with trying to stop the wrecking of the planet's environment. We sure as hell know the QOP wants a nation of hate and would gladly burn the planet tomorrow to get theirs today.
Here in 2022, we have a party of life (us) and a party of death (the QOP). There's no rational reason for someone to support the latter.

(10,839 posts)The President is fighting for us. Now it's time we fight for him, do the one thing that can turn the table on McConnell and his pack of obstructionists and insurrectionists:
Vote en masse for every Dem on the ticket. Vote Dem through and through. Vote Dem to throw every Republican into the Deep Blue Sea.
Without lifejackets.
We do that, we will jumpstart the change we expected and desperately want to see.
Couldn't be more elementary.
VOTE!

(1,962 posts)So many of the Biden Bashers seem to think that a president is a dictator (maybe because the prior occupant of the White House acted like one). They're not. They can have the most amazing and brilliant ideas in history, and not one bit of it will happen without the House and Senate.
So we fight for the president who is fighting for us by keeping the House blue, and adding more Democratic senators this fall, giving him a legislative branch that fights with him instead of for him.
Vote blue everyone.. For him... For us.

(13,058 posts)it's basically their usual "look over there" to distract from the horrors being revealed by the committee. Which is why we should not be distracted by their nonsense, but rather double down on our support for Biden/Harris to counter the lies the GOP is putting out.

(89,265 posts)trying to blame BLM , Antifa etc . If someone who was a democrat or had any association with them this would be spreading all over. Same with the news of the child sex abusing Republican . But these actual things Republicans and the right do are not spreading . Part of it is because those who are liberal usually do other things with their lives which isn't directly political unlike the Right WIng which has a large number of people whose lives are all political and they spend it all on Right wing Radio , tv, internet etc. They spend all their time on comment sections spewing their shit.
Look at videos and articles with comment areas of crimes in Blue states and you will have people blaming democrats. But you wont see that in ones involving crimes in red states .
Even we refer to the crap in florida with "florida man" taking away any political view of it.

(4,616 posts)these are trolls? I' mean we've seen this movie before. Not to long ago. I've said it a hundred times already, I'll say it again. Biden gets blamed, then the bickering starts, then comes the blaming all that is wrong in the world on the MAGA's and elected republicans and anyone and everyone BUT me. The forest can't be seen for the trees! Republican elected officials are the symptom. THE US VOTER IS THE ILLNESS! We can blame all we want, doesn't change the FACT that ALL of them were elected by US VOTERS. "WE" put government in office, WE have to change it if we don't like it. AND by the bickering, denial and blaming millennial's, blaming poor voters, blaming minority voters, (insert group to blame here) that is near constant, we will get nothing but more of the same. People seem to be more interested in casting blame and worrying about gas prices than they are about the fact that the US is falling right before their eyes. And when it completely falls, all those same people will express their absolute shock and surprise. See Dobbs as a perfect example. Because hey, who could have seen it coming right.
It's been a work in progress for decades. And it was no secret, we were told exactly what the goals were. And I look around and see said plan has come to fruition. "We the people" is gone. It's now ME and those people" United we stand, divided we fall.

I don't wake up every morning, afraid to find out what he has done now, like I did before. I don't get anxious when I think about Biden.
I get pissed off when I see another headline vilifying Biden. Thank heavens I quit social media. Because if I hadn't, I'd be pissed off all the time.
Having Biden as POTUS is a calming influence on my life.

(17,635 posts)...i will still try to get my voice heard. They also included questions about local races. Fine..keep going. Then after i said I supported my local dem senator the next few questions always started with: "would you Still vote for XXX if you knew"..then they started talking about how my candidate was 100% behind bidens 'disastrous policies...etc
I stopped them right there and asked for proof that joes policies were 'disastrous'. They said they only read the questions blah blah blah... then after the next very leading question i said ( something to the effect) I would vote for xx even if she got on her knees and gave BJs to every congressman then i hung up.
grrr they wasted my time with partisan crap...

And yet, some in the Democratic Party are complaining about the President and his approach to governance. Sens. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Tina Smith of Minnesota have called on Biden to declare a national emergency over the rollback of abortion rights and to set up abortion clinics on federal land -- despite the legal ban on federal funding for most abortions, and the reality that such a move could put doctors and women at risk of arrest when they depart federal land within a state that has outlawed abortion.....
But the reality is that Biden has, in fact, done a ton of good despite GOP obstructionism. His American Rescue Plan invested more than $13 billion in minority-serving institutions of higher education, more than $10 billion in community colleges, $2.6 billion in Historically Black Colleges and Universities and about $190 million in tribal colleges and universities.
His policies -- especially the child tax credit in his rescue package -- reduced child poverty, keeping some six million kids from falling into poverty. Young people, and all of us who know and love them, should be singing Biden's praises for what he has done, not criticizing him for what the Republicans have blocked him from doing.
I am old enough to remember when it was right-wing Republicans who were hellbent on tearing down Democratic presidents like Barack Obama and Clinton; now the progressives are practically doing the GOP's job for them.
I have a radical proposal for my progressive friends: Stop attacking Biden and start attacking Republicans. If you think Biden is too weak, don't weaken him further for goodness sakes. Strengthen him, so he can lead the way forward.
