I've been on disability most of my life. I've been helped from money from an apartment

complex my family owns, (well my mother owns now) in New Jersey. It's only 10 units but it has provided her income and has helped me too.

I just found out it was completely flooded and my mother did not have flood insurance on it.

I am so upset/mad/angry/pissed/you name it.

Because of my illness my mother has always treated me as if I were not "as knowing" as she. And even though years ago I lived there and took care of it, (the apartment building) before I moved to Florida she insists now that she is the only one that can do anything for it. I cannot say anything to her now as I know she feels really bad.

I just called my brother who lived in PA and asked him to help and told him, (which I believe to be true as my mother is now 80) that she is not as "with it" as she used to be or thinks she is, and would he please help her. I told him the situation of the insurance.

Does anyone know if FEMA helps in a situation such as this? I guess it couldn't hurt to ask them.

cement block garage collapse onto some antique autos they were restoring. The garage was excluded from their homeowners, and the cars left off their antique auto insurance. We're talking big bucks here, of course, maybe another $25 or $35 a year to buy coverage!

freeing up crucial dollars that are there in the event you have no insurance, or your insurance doesn't cover it. I am not certain whether the complex is in a flood zone (my house isn't) so that might be your hurdle

We may need a roof repair or replaced...there is water damage (from the wind and the rain) in our primary residence. We are thanking God. It could have been much, much worse. Hugs to you, and best of luck with your investment.

Here is a link that should help:

but they can take some time to get and with regular interest rates at rock bottom, it's not as much of a deal as it used to be.

Things are just going to be very tight unless/until she does the repairs. I'm glad you have a brother whose help you can enlist, it sounds like your mother needs it.

Now she probably couldn't give them away. I feel really bad too because she and my step dad are supposed to be here in Florida now.

I'm sure she is feeling really bad about not getting the insurance and I'm not going to throw it up in her face but I am kind of furious about it. She got notice that they were in a flood zone too. And the apartment are 4 blocks away from the water!

Oh well, things happen and I am just going to be supportive. I sent her the FEMA stuff. Still have only been able to get on the phone with her once since the storm.

I just called her house and they still don't have the house phone working so I assume they still don't have electricity. And they both get really cold. I hope they can get a hotel somewhere or stay with friends. She's not answering her cell right now.

Manhattan from just a couple stories up. Maybe I should take to her about that. Instead of cleaning everything up and fixing up every apartment.

Oh who knows. I guess we should wait for a sign. A big one with neon lights.
