Just being a first responder at something as bad as this would be horrible. But imagine there's a cop there who didn't live up to our "expectations" as we sit here at our keyboards. We don't know there is such a cop, not even one. But if some cop were feeling guilty and hated themselves right now for something they did or didn't do, or they can't stop thinking about something they "think" they did or didn't do, that cop is a victim too in my book. They wouldn't have had to be there at all if it weren't for the gun manufactures, gun dealers, and the pitiable cartoon that the Republican Party has let itself become.

(3,872 posts)On page 51 of the Uvalde Budget for 2018-2019, it shows what you stated. About $4,000,000 of about $10,000,000 was projected for the police budget. Here's a link (see page 51 of 119)
However, of the about $4,000,000, only $30,000 went for training in that projected budget, it seems. Over half of the total projected budget went to salaries and staffing costs.
I have no real idea how much training that would be. This is not an excuse for the lack of action: after all, they must have had some training at some point.
It looks like an example of a course that covers dynamic room entry is $850 per LEO. Here's a link to that:
If that's the only training that's budgeted for, that's about 33 students trained in SWAT tactics.
Here is an employment ad for a patrol officer there:
It seems that the salary is roughly $50,000. So, if all the projected salary budget were for officers only, they would have about 50 officers in the department. That's an overestimate clearly.
Anyway, it looks like they have enough training budgeted for about 8 days per year for about half the police force. That does not seem to be enough based on what occurred.

(5,190 posts)Being sacrificed for corporate greed.
People know we need them, but the cops should know they need us too.
We're all humans,
Not corporations.
It would be safer, for everyone, if these guns were no longer legal again.

If they dont get that, find another job.
