that sick shit all over them. Pass a SIMPLE, stand alone background check bill in the house. Today. No riders or amendments. And no over-reach. It CANt have any other shit in it!!! Straight up and straight forward background check law. Bring it up for a vote in the Senate and let them vote against it.
Then pass one requiring a strict permit requirement for the purchase or possession of high capacity magazines. Call em school children slaughtering magazines. Call the bill the school children protection from bullets bill.
Then one that imposes stiff penalties on gun sellers who sell guns to people with known mental illness.
Then one that makes the minimum age 21.
Etc., etc.
Simple, stand alone bills that 70%+ Americans agree with. The key here is to keep our own wish list stuff out of these bills. Dont give them reasons to oppose them, or ammo for FO࿖ News to spin.
And the paint the assholes with their no votes.

that the support for some basic, common sense measures would benefit us more than hurt us.
How can any reasonable person oppose background checks and age restrictions on people seeking to purchase tactical weapons DESIGNED for mass killings? That is, unless they are being paid by lobbyists to oppose?
And again, my point about this strategy is to carefully NOT include anything controversial in the bills. Stick only to the measures known to be supported by the vast majority of the electorate. Im talking about a 1 or 2 paragraph bill that cant be twisted out of context. Call it the Respect for Law Abiding Gun Owners bill, targeting the non-law abiding offenders as people who should never own such a weapon - like troubled 18 year old teenagers.
Its NOT going to pass. Agreed. But we know most of not all republicans will vote against it, right? No matter how simple and rational it is. Then theyre on record, and we can saturate the airwaves in the run up to the midterms.
And yes, I realize this is the very definition of politicizing this tragedy. But it is a political policy issue. Its time we treated it as such.
