Former Fox News Anchor Chris Wallace Describes How Bad It Was to Work at Fox News

Mother Jones

“Some people might have drawn the line earlier, or at a different point,” he acknowledged. “I think Fox has changed over the course of the last year and a half. But I can certainly understand where somebody would say, ‘Gee, you were a slow learner, Chris.’”

...

But Mr. Wallace also acknowledged that he felt a shift at Fox News in the months after Donald J. Trump’s defeat in 2020—a period when the channel ended its 7 p.m. newscast, fired the political editor who helped project a Trump loss in Arizona on election night and promoted hosts like Mr. Carlson who downplayed the Jan. 6 riot.

He confirmed reports that he was so alarmed by Mr. Carlson’s documentary “Patriot Purge” — which falsely suggested the Jan. 6 Capitol riot was a “false flag” operation intended to demonize conservatives—that he complained directly to Fox News management.

Not that it seemed to have mattered much. “I’m fine with opinion: conservative opinion, liberal opinion,” Wallace said. “But when people start to question the truth—Who won the 2020 election? Was Jan. 6 an insurrection?—I found that unsustainable.”

The moral conundrum of telling a lie.
That gets backed by another lie.
Getting reinforced by more lies.
Until there's nothing left but keeping up the pyramid of confabulations you've concocted.
Until the lies start to feel like some shaky truth.
Then when the facts come out to expose it all...
"Nothing to see there folks, look at these cute puppies!!!"

. . . . honest, I'm one of the Good Guys, I had a conscience all along . . .

Maybe trying to find work elsewhere?

Not working for most, Chris. Go write a book, or something.

It's not as if FOX would have been off the air without him, and Fox viewers got an occasional dose of sanity from him that they wouldn't have gotten from other Fox anchors.

i'm annoyed with all of the indignant high level Republicans each finding the moment they can no longer go along with the party. As if they didn't have to be jerks for being a part of it in the first place. As if the party just became racist, cheating, and only about power for the wealthy when Trump got elected or when he tried to overthrow the government.

But we need the Lincoln Project, Pence's former staffer, books by insiders saying it was all a lie... some of these guys are our best spokespersons and can reach the people who can be swayed. So we welcome them and are grateful they have consciences and the ability to change, even admit their error.

A decent paycheck soothed his concerned conscience.

But now he speaks up. But he is still soft-soaping Fox and it's evil intent.

There are less-seasoned "journalists" who saw the danger coming at F*** News as far back as the 2000 election. David Shuster had a discussion with his former F*** News colleague Bret Baier about the 2000 election conspiracy F*** was pushing about pre-MAGA voters in the Flori-duh panhandle deciding not to vote after hearing the state had been called, thus (allegedly) giving Gore the advantage. They sent Baier to report on the story after maniacally pushing it. When Baier found the conspiracy theory to be incorrect, they refused to air the debunking. Now, David Shuster is no William R. Murrow, but even HE established that point 22 years ago as when F*** News went full-tilt bananas. Chris Wallace has no excuse.
