(50,326 posts)these photos show that over and over again. They are all beautiful, heartwarming but the one with the infant peacefully sleeping, snuggled up in the President's arms is one I have not seen before and, to me, says it all.

(885 posts)this man inspires me daily.
I'll add my own little clip. My five year old was asking me about the POTUS, AF1 and other issues the other day. He said this of his own free will when I explained some issues that are important to our family. I had to catch him since he kept saying it.

(13,776 posts)These warm my heart!
It's pictures like this that leave me absolutely dumbfounded that this race is even remotely close. Romney is a demonstrably lying, out-of-touch, plutocratic robot, and... well, just look at these pictures of our guy. It just doesn't make sense to me.

(12,233 posts)to see Hillary campaign for Obama. He got a sign (still on the wall) and had a ball. On election night, he took his American flag and ran around the house saying Barack Bama. And sporadically when he would see the President on TV, he'd get out the flag and run around saying brack Bama. Like the USA was Obama... It was quite cool.
Something even better about kids; they don't see color. They see same sex people kiss on TV. He's so young and doesn't know history enough even at 8 now to know that a black president is something special for many of us who are older. It's a history mark that they don't really understand they are crossing... It's normal. It's not weird for them to see a black President. All colors are on his playground. He doesn't understand that gay people can't marry... I sure hope by the time it's more appropriate for birds and bees, it's another normal.
The only thing I have to tell him now, when u see adults on TV doing a "sexy kiss", it's for grown ups and not kids. He can't be lip smacking any little girls or boys... dad's expression of his "guys kissing on the lips on TV" was a bit priceless for me... He's on a growing curve from the southern redneck republican into a democratic voter... I'm still working on social acceptance. It takes time to undo a lifetime of being told different is immoral.
lunatica
(53,410 posts)The time will come when people will be very puzzled as to why anyone thought gay marriages were bad. I hope it comes soon.

(13,776 posts)My kids cannot even imagine--literally--a world in which it's not utterly normal for men or women to marry men or women, or for the United States to have a president who isn't white or, well, white.
It says so much about what happens to people as social norms infect us....

(10,303 posts)It didn't help Mr. Romney that he couldn't make it to the show and the producers had to cobble up things from news clippings to try and be equal and somewhat fair. Not fair on the kids though, say the producers and I agree too.
So no wonder in this Nick show President Obama won.
Barack has charisma and is very easy around people, especially younger people. Mr. Romney - it's not as natural to him, IMO he does lack charisma. Heck I will even give George W Bush some credibility on the charisma front - he has more than Mr. Romney.

(21,478 posts)Those kids don't need a future of Ayn Rand and the Koch brothers, they need a future of we're all in this together, and we'll get through the tough times together.
We need that even for us Boomers, as well. Thanks for the reminder.

(8,492 posts)As a former child that was terrified of people, these mean so much to me. There were always those adults I could trust immediately. The ones that I could look into their eyes and feel safe with.
I was never wrong about one of those adults as a kid. Pres. Obama is one of them. They know he can be trusted.
Now, I'm having a hard time picking a favorite. It's a toss up between the little baby with the dandelion, or that young AA boy in the glasses clinging to the Presiden't photo. He has that look of 'someday that could be me'. We don't just have a First Family, we have role models for all Americans.

(1,957 posts)The last time I can remember enthusiasm ,of this magnitude, from kids to a president was Kennedy. What a great role model--a reason to study, dream and achieve goals once thought impossible. At the other end of the spectrum you can "rate the hate" that seems embedded in the eyes and body language of these kids. As the movie South Pacific said "you have to be carefully taught". These kids are miserable but don't know why. All they know is they are expected to dislike, despise, hate someone or some group of people. It's a sad way of growing up compared to the former pics of laughter, love and hugs for all.
