Is there data to backup the assertion that people use welfare $ to buy drugs & alcohol?

If not, at what point in time will anyone in the media push back or correct those lies?

They tried to prove people on welfare used their meager funds on drugs/booze in Florida a few years back only to have it blow up in their faces. Yet the lie persists.

Why?

Obviously, we need to put climate action and everything else on hold until we can figure out just what the hell is going on!!!

But there are many many more will use the money as it should be for the family good. They should not be penalized.

Who self reports for buying drugs and alcohol with their childcare tax credits?

This is something I’ve come to expect a Republican to say. It’s their standard answer when the discussion is helping the poor. It’s Scroogish, right at Christmas time. Manchin is Scrooge.

Told us the welfare queens used it to make the cadillac payment. Then they said it gets used on hair, nails and bling. Now it is drugs and booze.

My fav to this day is a former affluent client who ranted over someone paying for cake mix with food stamps.

Do these assholes have believing financial help will be used to buy drugs?

Who financially wants to abuse the poor by denying them financial help?

I think the more money they have makes them
be more bigoted and cruel .

The bigotry and meaness comes when the income goes up. I think their is a direct correlation with this shit.

There will always be some fraud in public assistance programs. Medicare, one of the largest public health programs has a fraud and waste of about 3%. Sometimes lower, but around that percentage consistently, yet people think that fraud is rampant in public programs.

Why? Because we have had it drilled into our heads that when you give people things for free, they get lazy and corrupt because poor people are lazy and less than others.

I agree that the media has fallen down on the job WAY more in the last several years, but even if they pushed back and showed the current idiots to be liars, that story would come back again the next time some social welfare program was proposed.

Ronald Reagan in 1980, ran AGAINST the mythical (Black) welfare queen in her gold Cadillac and the "young Buck" eating his steak and lobster on food stamps. Those were lies too, but the country bought it. Hell even Bill Clinton bought it and put the work requirement into AFDC replacing it with TANF. To make sure those lazy welfare people were trying to find work.

Republicans are very good at getting people to think that someone is getting over on you and that "someone" is not the wealthy who find innovative and unfortunately legal ways of stealing from us, but poor people who just need help to get a leg up.
