I don't want to move on from this. I want this to be the narrative for more than 1 day.
The AG of NY, Letitia James summoned Trump for a deposition on Jan. 7th. This action means that she has all of the goods (documents) to indict Trump. She is doing the civil investigation/trial where intent doesn't need to be proven, it matters not whether Trump shows up for the deposition, he/his organization stands to lose hundreds of millions of dollars.
Oh yeah, the 3 judge Appeals court unanimously upheld the District court's decision that Trump does not have executive authority over the release of White House documents. In a blistering decision the court basically said that Trump made no valid argument and that our country has 1 president at a time and that president is Joseph Biden. This decision importantly, also means that Steve Bannon and Mark Meadows, and any other traitor can't claim Trump's now bogus executive immunity.
Just a reminder for Trump if he wants to immoralize, or was that memorialize a wonderful day yesterday.

(149,941 posts)It's great that Letitia James is pursuing this topic so vigorously. Just consider how upset TFG will be if she's the one who brings him down!
A woman and a POC. Perfect!

(8,989 posts)but I have to believe that every single last document was shredded long before he ever left the Whitehouse. Just like Oliver North and his secretary did......................
AND
If the Federal Authorities actually come for him, he will have already absconded to some unknown foreign location on some Republican Billionaires Gulfstream. Either that,
Or he will call on his followers to all come, en masse, immediately to Mar-a-Dingo to defend him from the Democrat Authorities.........
He and Desatin should have no problem assembling tens of thousands of Floridians on a moments notice if not many more.......

(14,160 posts)I'm trying to catch up... I'm trying to understand what I missed yesterday. The OP points to Jan 7th regarding a deposition appointment TFG ignored on bogus grounds, that was nearly a year ago. I'm guessing a critical legal/court decision connected to the NY's AG filings but don't know exactly what that was... and then I came across your post and now I'm even more confused.
Do I need to google?

retrospectives on the insurrection. That needs to be aired ALL DAY that day. So were all reminded.
And then, let this new Bad Day for the donald suck up all the oxygen the next day, directly on the heels of the Jan. 6 anniversary.

(6,926 posts)I want to see live coverage of a real trial with a real jury and it needs to happen NOW, to have already happened.
Okay.....I get it.......even if there is a trial it won't be covered live....there's no precedent for the trying of an ex-president. Will it all be pushed off until the mid-terms?
Everybody in the world needs to see the US federal government clean its own mess up. Can't count on the USSC to faithfully decide in the favor of justice since they're OBVIOUSLY political. Still, they are almost certain to be the final word on the matter. How does that make you feel? Do you feel like you've been hit in the stomach again? Like you did the morning when you woke to find that Trump was elected? Maybe it's just indigestion from all the lying propaganda we've swallowed for so many decades. Like when you uncover the layers of this country's history to find, at the bottom of it all, preserved like a holy relic, evidence of a dark secret that no one should ever keep. The scent of an evil which hid itself behind a mask. The masked lie upon which our nation was founded.
The lie is that our founders accomplished the formation of a functional democracy. Democracy cannot exist where people are enslaved and women are 2nd class citizens. Democracy exists only when and where every citizen's vote is counted and every citizen votes. Without the shroud of "electors" or the fraud of voting district boundaries. It's because of these perversely extraneous institutionalizations that we find ourselves at this impasse without a means to move toward safe and solid ground, somewhere beyond violence. Living in a fear of the jungle's inconvenience, we just trudge along into our sad containment.

(10,252 posts)So if and when he gets indicted for tax fraud and/or perjury, do think he will hop a plane to Russia, rather than do a perp walk?
I want that bastard sitting in a very very small gray cell for the rest of his life with nothing to do but contemplate how he got himself there. Not that it matters, because the chances of him having an ah-ha moment, where he realizes that he did it to himself are slim and none. Nope, he will persist in the delusion that he's a victim, and "they" did it to him/

(21,611 posts)Cy Vance jr. is doing the criminal investigation but both are cooperating with one another.
The James trial will cost the Trump organization hundreds of millions of dollars if he loses, Trump will not go to jail.
Letitia James is ready for trial, she doesn't need Trump's deposition, she has the documents, and the good thing about a civil trial, she can use his taking the 5th against him and she doesn't have to prove intent.

(19,208 posts)The Orange Pig has grifted far more than that from the suckers who bought stock in his "media empire", and his cult members keep throwing money his way like they're printing it in their garages (they probably are). And we'll probably never know how much he stole from the American people while squatting in the White House.
The Orange Pig won't lose a penny of his own money, even if he's found guilty in New York, guilty of tax evasion, and guilty of every other con he's perpetrated.
King Con has already stolen more than he could ever lose in judgements. And they say crime doesn't pay. "They" never met King Con.

(6,637 posts)"The Committee is investigating a singular event in this nation's history, in which there is a sufficient factual predicate for inferring that former President Trump and his advisors played a materially relevant role."
For emphasis, the judges wrote "there is a sufficient factual predicate for inferring that former President Trump and his advisors played a materially relevant role"
I believe this is the first time any court has said Trump & his cabal played a "materially relevant role" in the 1/6 insurrection. I don't think I need to explain how significant that is, to have that statement come from judges in a court.

(21,611 posts)James is doing a civil case, basically involving 3 Trump properties. He over-valued their worth when getting a loan but under-valued their worth when paying taxes. The range of values that Trump used was astronomical. This isn't just about avoiding taxes, it could also involve defrauding investors, and bank fraud. Experts that I listened to on TV claim that the Trump Organization is probably liable for hundreds of millions of dollars.

I was reading up on when Eric got deposed in October last year. I read that they challenged the validity of a state subpoena. But then I could never find anything to substantiate that. All I can find was that Eric tried to delay until after the election. Due to his travel schedule LOL. They didn't buy that.
gab13by13
(21,611 posts)Yes she forced Eric to testify which makes me wonder what cats did he leave out of the bag?
I repeat, the civil prosecution is much easier to get a conviction than a criminal trial. James does not have to prove intent. Trump is good at having his kids put their names on documents to protect himself, he did that in his money laundering tower in Baku, Azebaijan, he had Ivanka put her name on that tower that never opened for business. This is different, the Trump Organization is going to be out a lot of money no matter who Trump tries to blame, and he would throw his kids under the bus if he could.

(21,611 posts)We are all hoping that the SC refuses to take the case. It takes 4 justices to take on a case and the court may not have the 4. If it does take on the case it certainly needs to be expedited. I don't believe that Chief Justice Roberts wants his court to be known as the flood gate that opened our country to autocracy.
msfiddlestix
(7,290 posts)it's been suggested that SCOTUS is likely to refuse to hear the case for a preliminary injunction matter, with the caveat that the courts do surprise legal eagles. (my words)
The speculative thinking is that is not likely. xfingers
