(351 posts)First off I am 100% prochoice and actually think men should just STFU about the issue. However I've noticed that many young women like to joke about Viagra. First of all "Medicare generally does not cover Viagra or other medications for ED treatment. Under Medicare guidelines for coverage, these medications are not considered medically necessary." Medicaid doesn't cover it either.
A second more important point. For every hetro man using Viagra there is a happy hetro woman whom can still enjoy sex. One would think that the young would have a little more compassion for their elder sisters, because their day is coming. It's biology and you can't escape it.

(351 posts)I just know that ED drugs help older women enjoy sex.

(3,340 posts)Excuse me, but a hetero woman probably does not need an erect penis to enjoy sex or orgasm.
My guess is an erect penis is primarily a mans desire, he believes THAT is what will satisfy a woman.

(6,942 posts)They think it's a magic wand. It isn't.
To quote Samatha Bee (from memory so might have some minor inaccuracy): "Even the woman who loves you more than anyone else in the world wants you to hurry up and get it into her so she doesn't have to look at it."
OrangeJoe
(351 posts)Samantha Bee is very funny and I have no way of knowing her true desires. But her experience is not the same as mine.

(351 posts)If you truly believe that, then you can't argue that contraceptives should be free. (n.b. I think they should be free to anyone without question or permission slips from parents, etc.). In your scenario men aren't involved therefore women can't get pregnant which means right wingers restrictions have no effect on women. Unless you are arguing that full p and v sex should only be used for procreation you aren't making sense. Again, you can enjoy sex anyway you want, but for many older men and women a little bit of chemical help keeps the fire burning and you should check your privilege and recognize that fact.
iemanja
(53,093 posts)So much for women's rights. You honed in on what really matters in society: men's sex lives. That is why men are never held accountable for the women they impregnate, while women's bodies are pathologized. Thanks for sharing your priorities.
OrangeJoe
(351 posts)I wrote "for many older men and women a little bit of chemical help keeps the fire burning. Nowhere did I "hone in on what really matters in society: men's sex lives". I emphasized that older men AND WOMEN benefit from the little blue pill. I am assuming you are young and unfortunately have no regard for others who are not in your demographic. Someday you'll see.
iemanja
(53,093 posts)and you continue to press the matter to the point of anger. This OP is about a protest for women's basic rights, yet you were more concerned with your own sex life. Those are facts. It's exactly like when white people turn a discussion about race into their own feelings.

(406 posts)about a fish and bicycle?
My auto mechanics teacher (both of us female) was from a buffalo ranch and said that the male buffalo were so much of a problem that they froze the sperm to impregnate the females so they'd have less males to deal with.
OrangeJoe
(351 posts)Your story is very close to the fundamentalist belief that sex should be undertaken only for procreation, not sure you really want to go there.

(351 posts)So let's leave it at that.

(351 posts)My point was that many young women fail to acknowledge that many of their elder sisters still enjoy a healthy sex life due to advances in ED drugs. (Enough qualifiers in there for you?) Now from your privileged position of youth and good health you may think that the olds knocking boots is icky, but that's just your ageist prejudice talking.

I was attempting to provide a little clarification to a subject that is commonly misrepresented. Unfortunately you are stuck with your prejudices and seem to be incapable to understand anything that is not from your viewpoint. You insisted I need to add the phrase "in your experience" and then turn around and accuse me of making this all about me. Bye.
iemanja
(53,093 posts)I pointed out that you made a universal proclamation ("every" hetero woman), only to later say it was about your experience. I made an observation about that discrepancy. I NEVER commented on your sex life. You worked yourself into a rage over that simple point. You chose to lash out at me rather than at the people who did comment on what they saw as the lack of necessity for dicks.
You chose to make the conversation personal. I did not, and I resent your making comments about my sex life. I don't discuss such things in open forums because its no one's business. I don't share your self-focus. I care about abortion rights, despite the fact that I am far too old to conceive.
You made it and continue to make it clear what really matters to you: Your own sex life. Coddling the ego of "allies," you insisted, justifies making the conversation about you. That is your male privilege, which is so important to you that you attack women watching their equal rights be destroyed. Being an ally is fighting for the rights of others, not making it about one's own fragility.

(22,282 posts)You are quite correct regarding medically necessary and/or effective (true for many items if person is using Medicare). Also, one needs to add "experimental" to the list. If Medicare designates something as experimental, most insurance carriers will follow along.
If the employer who negotiates the plan with the insurance carrier wants it included in the prescription coverage, there is a good chance it will be allowed.
OrangeJoe
(351 posts)My post was really a reaction to the commonly held mistaken belief that ED drugs are fully covered by Medicare. Combine that with the view, consistent with patriarchal beliefs (only men benefit from them), and throw in a little agist prejudice for good measure. Like I said the sign was funny, I get the anger that women feel having to submit to idiotic men telling them what to do with their bodies, but everyone need to examine their own beliefs for bias, too.

(81,558 posts)OMG, I just have to say I LOVE this one! And the Bang Bang one also!
Yeah, name-calling. But sometimes you have to fight with whatever weapons you can find. Trashing their brand is fair game. Especially if their public positioning, statements, and behavior not only invite it, they almost literally beg for it.
Traildogbob
(8,861 posts)Keeps me young😁 I think MTG is brick house wealthy so the Trailer Queen fits Bang Bang Bimbobert better, but they both exemplify white trash spot on. Cant get whiter, or trashier. Marsha Blackburn has been feeling left out so she is making a strong comeback. She hates the black in her name. Probably why she always acts like that stick up her ass has a stick up its ass. The Queen and Bimbobert will make great Halloween costumes and from our side, Kyrsten will do good as well. I still believe women are what will save us, but the fight for equality in stupid has me worried. Look behind Trump at the Kkklan comedy shows, lots of women, lots of stupid. All dressed up for a Saturday night out, (a break from the normal Waffle House/Wresslin/Dirt track) date night, with hooker red lipstick.

(21,661 posts)I discovered this by accident when looking up a claim earlier in this thread the Viagra is not publicly funded. Taxpayer dollars do pay for it for retiree military personnel.
But the article I found is from 2017 and contains a link to the exact same photo. So that photo must be from 2017 or earlier.

(51,648 posts)today. That's never happened before. I have hand drawn signs from 22 protests over the past 5 years and most are more elaborate or just better than the one I made for today. I can't post a photo from my tablet but the sign is a take off from the Joan Crawford based movie "Mommy Dearest". It said "No More Wire Hangers" with a red circle and slash through the hanger. I attached a real wire hanger to it and it swung back and forth as I marched.
The really sad part is that several women came up to me as we marched (8,000-10,000 people) and told be real stories of family members who had wire hanger abortions and they were really horrific.
