I think we should leave the flag-worship to the right-wingers. I used to fly the flag proudly on special occasions. Haven't been able to do it for decades since the Republicans basically weaponized patriotism.

So this Gulf War veteran has to put up with beer-bellied armchair warriors declaring themselves to be superpatriots, and anyone who doesn't flail the flag as hard as they do is not as patriotic.

Our fellow liberals tell us we need to take the flag back from the reich-wingers, and I agree that we should. But until that happens in some definitive way, I just worry that, by flying the flag, someone will think I'm one of them. I suppose I could fly the flag, and then underneath it, the Pride flag or something; something that mitigates the perception of aggressive nationalism that still attaches to the flag.

My feeling is that if some jackwagon wants to equate me with the RWNJ's for flying my flag on appropriate days, then let them, I, and those that know me, know the truth and that's good enough for me.

Used to be, we put out the flag on special occasions, and I took pause in seeing them, but these days, every other house sports an American flag 24/7. I guess the flag etiquette I learned back in the day was bogus

is against present flag etiquette. It is suppose to rest freely on a pole. Trumps started that along with his ugly puss on flags. Democrats have the flag hangers too now. A department or agency flag o k but not The American Flag. IMO.
