This is just an observation about Linkedin. Like many here, I have an account on Linkedin because of looking for jobs and keeping in touch with people. I don't discuss politics on it because it seems that it is nothing but a all hail 45 and other Reich wing BS. I have to stop myself from answering because the CEO of the company I just got a job with, is a proud supporter of 45 and met him at the WH. I am so glad to be able to come here not fear retribution and ridicule. Does anyone else feel that way?

No matter what the platform is, some people are going to post extreme materials. Says nothing about the platform in general.

(1,896 posts)There's been a flood of people, both in my contact list and the one-off lists that have been posting whacked out stuff about supporting Trump and the country being on the brink of socialism. One long screed from a from a "retired cold case investigator" with the East Cleveland Police Department made the rounds from more than a half-dozen of my contacts. He bemoaned the advent of a socialist regime. Quite ironic from a guy who's salary, benefits and pension were no doubt heavily subsidized-if not outright paid for-with taxpayer funds.

(7,638 posts)Then again on a social site where potential employers / employees network, why would I discuss politics or even allow posts? I wouldn't go to an interview expecting to have a political debate, and if I did I might get rich. Don't think people are allowed to use political affiliations or beliefs as a job requirement.

(32,767 posts)I never found anything useful at LinkedIn. It was sort of "Facebook for working people" that morphed into a way to distribute your resume without having to physically mail pieces of paper around. None of that interested me, and I quit the site within a couple of months after I joined. Thank goodness I was smart enough to only give them my work email, not my personal email address.
Well guess what? Like every other social media-type thing, they collected their members' contact info and continued to use it (and probably sell it) whenever possible. I used to get spam and unwanted emails regularly, and they're probably still selling my name. I've been retired 3 years, having never participated in any LinkedIn activities of any kind. Even after I die, I'll still be a commodity to them. Fuck them all - Facebook too.
