Not sure that the Repubs will stop ever being obstructionist, even as a minority

From the moment Mitt Romney announced Ryan as his running mate, the congressman has been running from specifics of his famed Ryan Budgets, which had made him the darling of the conservative movement. This was to be expected
and a bit ironic, as Romney had adopted nearly all of Ryans ideas when his campaign was crumbling in the primary.
Ryans downfall began when his harmless fib about his marathon time was closely followed by a widely panned convention speech where his disregard for the truth came off as deliberate and invidious. This immediately cut into his image as someone who told hard truths. Instead he used half-truths and flat-out lies in order to make an unprincipled case against the president.

If Romney and Ryan are roundly rejected, the notions of turning Medicare into a voucher system and gutting a trillion dollars from Medicaid to pay for more tax breaks should go down with them. Even more importantly, Ryan who was one of the key figures in the House Republicans stand on the debt limit and rejecting President Obamas grand bargain will have been defeated by the president himself.
No one expects Republicans to then completely bend over for the president. But their leverage will be minimal to non-existent as we approach the so-called fiscal cliff.

(31,706 posts)If the rushpublicans retain the House they'll continue to obstruct and make things difficult for President Obama. Also...while rushpublicans may lose overall, the ones who remain will be the most rabid teabaggers and maybe even joined by more. While I hope for the best in the House, it's still a big lift to get the 25 seats to take majority control...but if that happens, it will be the Ryan budget that will be a major cause as it fed right into the Democratic themes.
The fun will be the blame game that is already going and is sure to flare up should the Stench go down to defeat. Let's see how Pinocchio Munster handles things. Will he become another Palin? Or will he play it smart...take his lumps quietly and use the experience to build a power base toward 2016. Be assured that much of the great unhinged will deny they lost the election...only that their corrupt and inept party wasn't "conservative" enough...and Ryan could benefit in the long run from that...

(14,459 posts)The "entitlement" slashfest is a bipartisan sport lately...quite ironic that they have their list of entitlements that they are benefitting from while calling the (almost not there) safety net an "entitlement."
