General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDiane Fienstein is really beginning to bother me ..
I thinking her hug of Lindsey was a planned move ..just as her making wrong noises about filibuster when President Obama called it a relic of slavery...
What is her angle?
Is this the result of some internal squabble with Schumer that we don't know about. EVEN if she lost some power struggle - does she forget who is she supposed to be fighting for?
I can give somewhat of a pass to Andrew Yang .. though I really think he partly chose to fire those shots to soften her up for the upcoming fight for speaker's role and get a more progressive champion.
But what is Diane's Axe?

Where she is really going to do damage is if we win back the Senate, as she will be leading 'the filibuster stays' and 'the SCOTUS must never be expanded' crowd in our Caucus. Hopefully Schumer and Biden and Harris can negate her influence, if it comes down to that. Manchin and Sinema are lost causes, so unless we flip SEVEN or more Rethug seats, just those 3 can block both, and unfortunately, there are multiple others too who will vote to block both (as it stands).

(20,632 posts)in any way, shape, or form similar to that under the same circumstances. In fact, she'd be more like to use that white board to beat Lindsey Graham over his stupid worthless head!

I suggest you leave her alone. She is a Democrat and had done well over the years. Those whining that she must do something need to understand, barring a miracle, there is no way to stop Barratt. That ship sailed in November of 16. When the ' but her emails crowd' failed to support Hillary Clinton, the only one who could have stopped the right.

(9,224 posts)You do not support anything that gives Graham a lifeline in a close race he has a real chance of losing.
Which is precisely what she did.

(23,252 posts)It certainly won't do her any favors back home, but maybe she's planning on retiring soon so doesn't care?

(58,785 posts)Her term ends in 2025. What do you imagine as stepping in it might better be recognized as not needing to engage in public showboating to pander to those who dont understand what her job is and how she does it.
Our partys position on all this is extremely solid And known to most, and other politicians are acting it out in caricature for those who dont read.
After all, Trump was right when he said elections have consequences. There is absolutely nothing our minority senators can do to stop this from going through. They can use it to make Republican senators up for reelection look like what they are.

(23,252 posts)It hasn't hurt them one bit with anyone who dislikes abortion, which is almost 100% of the right and about half of Independents. Look at non-progressive news and there's nothing bad in there about repugs or her because they all approve. There is nothing good about this for Democrats, women, the working class and even our country, not one damn thing. It is 100% bad and hypocritical of repugs. Now we have to expand the courts or we are a strongly right wing country for the next 50 years because any left move will be overturned by the extreme right wing SCOTUS. They could even install drumpf with her assistance, regardless if he loses by tens of millions of votes. So yeah, this is big and bad and I don't trust that lying Handmaiden one fucking bit.

(46,839 posts)That was a time when black and brown people were told to pipe down prior to elections so the Dems didn't scare off the racist Southern whites.
That was a time when "All politics are local" meant that many of us who lived in white suburban communities were run-over by the backwater networks that made sure the surplus of Federal money was put in the hands of their inner circles, while the rest of us were bullied.
The story of what was lost during that time period, is yet to be written.

(32,017 posts)Those of us on the left have been griping about Di-Fi for a long time, but the people of California continue to re-elect her. Her voluntary retirement is about the only way that she will ever go away.
She can be de-chaired, and thats what is being discussed, but I dont think thats likely to happen.

(721 posts)What she did was a jab at every dem colleague in that room and she knew it. If she was so moved she could have hugged Graham off camera right? No, she chose to do it in full view because she wanted to politicize her support for him.
I hope Harrison wins.

(6,428 posts)I doubt she goes for another term. It was considered a bit of a surprise she went for another term when telegraphing she was done. She's just keeping the seat warm. And Lindsey an her may be colleagues and get along behind the scenes. But both know one or the other is going bye bye first.

(65,190 posts)We cant be doing that. Yes, she is one of my least favorite Democrats, but I was not expecting what she did. And at her age, hugging someone who may have COVID?
